Flash Fiction Challenge: Now Choose Your Title

Last week, I said, “Come up with a title.”

And you did. Over 400 of them.

Now, your job is to go into the comments section of that post and find a title you like. Then, write a story (under 2,000 words, we’ll say) to fit that title. Please do not choose a title you came up with. The challenge is to pick up something new!

You have one week — due by Friday, October 2nd.

Post the story on your online space and link to it in the comments below.

Please give credit to the person who came up with your title. Credit is good.

Go. Pick. Write. Enjoy!

    • Lovely work. The way you use the dialog to keep it tense, terse, and tight…that really works. (Sorry if this is a duplicate-nothing I’ve posted lately has shown up and it doesn’t look like the Moderation Black Hole)

    • Wow. I expected something Sci-Fi but you went straight for True Life here. I loved the written letter style of prose you used. Definitely allows the reader to feel like the narrator experiencing all of these Stevens. Also kind of makes me wonder if anyone sees Carlos an infinite number of different ways…

    • I liked this. Cute story that offered enough about the protagonist to keep me interested in seeing where things went for her. When I saw the title “I Ate All The Cake” posted, I wondered if it would be a children’s story. But this was just as sweet even if it lacked that innocence.

    • Such great vignettes for this title. Really enjoyed your writing style in this one. The way the sentences just kept on with more detail, more description, but never losing focus. Read like someone telling the most improbable story, so excellent job keeping within the title. I like the direction you took it.

      • Thank you very much. I was reading Peter Heller’s The Dog Stars when I wrote it, and I think some of his sentence structure bled over in mine. (Sorry if this is a duplicate-nothing I’ve posted lately has shown up and it doesn’t look like the Moderation Black Hole)

      • Thank you very much! As an old fan, it’s almost impossible for me to write the name “Rita” without “lovely” appearing somewhere nearby. (Sorry if this is a duplicate-nothing I’ve posted lately has shown up and it doesn’t look like the Moderation Black Hole)

  1. I’m working on the story for another title and am trying to find the time to finish, as today’s the day. My question is, do we have a cut-off time after which we won’t be able to post links to a new story?
