Flash Fiction Challenge: Must Love Dinosaurs
Last week’s challenge: “Random Title Generation.”
Didja see? Didja see?
DINOCALYPSE NOW is ready to be downloaded into your eye-pads and Kindlemaschines and Nookies or whatever the hell you use in this crazy e-reader future. (And you can pre-order print!)
But, hey, I’d like to give a copy away. An e-copy, to be clear.
To get it, you gotta dance for your dinner. Or, rather, your dinosaurs.
This week’s flash fiction challenge?
Whatever you write must feature dinosaurs.
You have 1000-words.
You have one week. Due by noon EST on May 11th.
I’ll pick my favorite a week or so after the deadline and I’ll announce here at this post.
Again:
Must.
Feature.
Dinosaur(s).
RAAAAAAR.
Now go write.
EDIT:
DELIGHTFULLY NERDED by these stories. So much love.
I have chosen a winner.
Hostile Crayon’s RAWR THE PLUSH VELOCIRAPTOR.

This was a strange one, so I gathered up all my ideas and merged them together like a child with Play-Doh.
Hope you like it.

Sadlly my protagonist does not love dinosaurs but hopefully I still qualify! I have created a one woman writing retreat and booked into a B&B this weekend, this was my first activity. I am staying in the Eagle room, hence my protagonist:

I so often write such dark entries for these challengers. So something lighter this week as a daddy and daughter go to the museum and check out the Dinosaur Hall

This was a difficult one. So hard to deal with dinosaurs without invoking time travel, or treating them in a comic fashion, neither of which I wanted to do. I’m pretty happy with this result, though pedants will point out at least one significant flaw in the history. But this is FICTION, guys!
It’s called “The Lizard Keeper” and it’s here: http://narratorium.com/2012/05/05/the-lizard-keeper/

Was going to be a steampunk Aladdin thing, then I saw this really cool video on YouTube titled: The Gentlemen’s Duel and it was the coolest thing ever. So I said to myself, I says; why can’t someone steampunk a dinosaur? And then I remembered this bit in a “novel” I’d written WAY back in junior high and well, here is the result.

My first thought when I saw the challenge was: What the hell I’m I going to do with dinosaurs? My very next thought was the basis of this story:

Did I miss it? Did I miscalculate the time difference? Please tell me I didn’t. I really wanted to tell you all about The Thrill-a-Minute World of Raptorcross Racing.
http://ilonatherose.wordpress.com/the-thrill-a-minute-world-of-raptocross-racing/
I nearly skipped this week – I have negative free time between university essays, hunting-gathering-creating for deadlined personal projects, and having trouble putting down Blackbirds so I can get my beauty, no, brain-sleep (I’m not sucking up – it’s true! Head filled with disturbing images, and panda eyes to prove it.) But, dinosaurs! How could I not!?
Inspired while sitting in a studio with people recording drum tracks, and by my own realisation that if Dino’s had never died out, or we brought them back, /this/ is what I’d be doing right now.

“Never Catch Me Alive” my contribution to the dinosaur flash fiction contest. By my accounts, it is 10:02 EST friday.
And, somebody please tell me – how do I change my picture to myself rather than a skull to the left there? Um, yes, you will be able to tell the difference. Slightly.

Well I missed the deadline. Story’s not finished. Only had one day to write this week. Dang.
But got a nice second draft out of it that I may finish and at least post to my site.
Will read all you dinophiles and do, not do not, for next week.
