Last week’s challenge: “Opening Lines, Revealed.”
This week’s flash fiction challenge is quite simple:
Pick one of the following five settings/situations and write about it.
That’s it.
OH SO EASY.
The five are:
In the middle of a prison riot.
Chinatown during a hurricane.
In the Martian suburbs celebrating the Red Planet’s independence.
In a haunted mountain pass.
On the battlefield during a war between two races of mythological creature.
You have, as always, 1000 words.
Post at your online space.
Link back here.
Deadline is one week: 8/24, by Friday, noon, EST.

This was fun AGAIN. I went for Independence Day, myself; and maybe one other filmic influence…
Boom, boom, boom…

“Write about” or “write a story set in”?
Other than that – great blog, Chuck, particularly the writing stuff. Thanks for sharing your insights!

@Jon —
Well, both. Since each is both setting- and situation-flavored.

Here’s mine, as you can see I wanted to write both in Chinatown, and on Mars. And I didn’t write one last week, so I used one of those first lines as well.

Gee, I can’t tell you how much of a struggle this was. And I think I’m disqualified again, as it went well over length (1,250 words) and didn’t end up quite matching the setting I chose. But the story is what the story is, and it was inspired by Chuck’s challenge.
