Now, if you want updates as to what I’m working on? Or where you can find me?
Let’s see…
I’ve got a new White Wolf project in the works that I’m developing — a little something-something called A House Divided. I’m also on as writer for another WW project down the road, as-yet-unmentioned.
I’m hammering out MOCKINGBIRD, the sequel to BLACKBIRDS.
I just finished the second (and presumably final) edit on DOUBLE DEAD.
The first Atlanta Burns novella — SHOTGUN GRAVY — is cooling its heels while I plan the second and third novellas. Then I intend to release them one after the other, a month or so apart.
The film continues baking. Zeroing in on casting. Saw some cool new storyboards for the piece.
Got a second film moving into treatment phase this week.
The TV show remains defunct.
I’ve got a short story — one of my favorites I’ve ever written, thanks to some direction from editor Robin Laws — in a collection called THE NEW HERO (vol 1). Just saw the cover from Gene Ha, and wow.
Have various other novels in various other stages of possibility.
Contemplating various things:
a) Starting work on a comic project
b) A Kickstarter project for an anthology of really cool writers doing really cool things.
c) Seeing if I can scare up some video game work.
d) Seeing if I can’t scare up some new transmedia work.
(Which reminds me: as always, if you have work for me, I remain eager and available.)
Now, your turn.
Throw out some updates. How’re you doing? Whatchoo working on? Share with the world.
I wanna be excited about your stuff.

I did mean to ask you in that e-mail I sent you… are you involved at all in the World of Darkness MMO? I kind of swore off MMOs but was thinking of checking it out. Just curious. Also need to see if I can scrape together money for your books… I want all of them heh.
August 15, 2011 — 12:41 AM
terribleminds says:
@Ian:
I’m not really involved in the MMO. I did some early writing on it, and I have heard tell that some of that writing still exists in the MMO, but beyond that, I’ve not had my hands on it, no.

Jeez, you’e busy on all fronts. Congrats on the books, novellas, and all stages of film creation.
I have news, but I can’t share yet, so I’ll just jump up and down over here in my corner and look like the office gossip with her fake “I don’t want to tell” face. I’m trying to get up the nerve to send out a screenplay, and I’m making a cover for a friend’s e-book project while working on a sequel to the novel Greenwillow bought and finishing an unrelated one, so for now, that’s my news.
August 15, 2011 — 1:10 AM
A I says:
Oh sonova… just as I had already bought the books, you go ahead and do this. I swear, every time I buy something, it’s on sale the next week.
So, what am I doing? As a hobby-writer, I’m doing decently. I don’t write for money or as a job, so I haven’t earned the name pen-monkey yet. I’ve started a project where I’m writing articles, blogposts and tidbits from the perspective of a fictional character in a fictional world. One contemporary political/news article a week, and one drug addled flashback to the fictional character’s past in between them.
It’s mostly something I’m doing to force myself to write more and gives a decent balance of having to do research and investigation and just pure fictional writing. I’m hoping I can improve my writings enough that I might one day turn from an ambulance driver scribbling drivel in his spare time, to a fully fledged pen-monkey some day.

There definitely needs to be a Wendig-penned comic out there, dammit!
I just started the half-assed version of Monica Valentinelli’s 100 day social media blackout (http://www.sfwa.org/2011/07/the-results-of-my-100-day-social-media-blackout/). I’m planning to go 50 days. In that time, I’ll work harder to get something happening with the last novel I wrote, and rewrite my second novel and get it ready for an ebook.
I suppose social media is the closest thing I have to a compulsive addiction, so we’ll see how quitting cold turkey goes. I thought about justifying LiveJournal as digital methadone, but I’ll ride out the shakes and avoid Facebook, Twitter, and Google+, and even LiveJournal for 50 days and see how it affects my focus on other things.

Anthony Laffan says:
I’m hoping to get my very first official rejection from a paying magazine “soon.” Though, the alternative would be better, as that would make it officially my “First Motherfucking Sale.” Which, if that happens, I’ll let you know since you started that project what…a year ago? More? I’m just tragically slow to the finish line.
Without school (yay) or work (boo) I’ve managed to be somewhat productive lately and have wrapped up a few other writing projects (mostly game related) and am almost done a first draft of a full length novel. Not sure if it’ll be the first one I put on submission or not, but I like the story, world, and characters. Just not sure right now how well I’m conveying them. Then again, that is supposed to be standard when you are about 40-60k in, right?

Samantha J. Mathis says:
There’s been some good development on my end! The webcomic I write (www.brokenglasscomic.com) just got the funding (via kickstarter) to print the second issue and get us to Geek Girl Con in October, which is all sorts of exciting. The artist half is working her way through our third issue for the website and I’m working on editing and fixing the fourth issue.
We’re also a part of the giant all-female comic anthology project Womanthology (http://womanthology.blogspot.com), which has been a pretty kickass experience as well as nerve-wracking since this has been my first experience working with a professional editor. Usually I send my work through my artist, my husband and a friend, but never anyone working in the biz, as it were.
So! It’s been a trip thusfar!

Scott Andrews says:
Since you ask, I am currently –
* writing the dialogue, mission briefs and cut scenes for a video game
* writing up my notes on the first draft of a screenplay based on my first novel
* trying to come up with a good short story for an anthology that asked me contribute – two weeks left and I got nothing 🙁
* pitching an audio drama for my fave franchise – my first pitch was rejected, but the door’s still open (I think/hope/pray)
Plus, you know, buying my first house, working 9-5, raising two kids, all that jazz. All of which may explain why I’m so puffed out that the new novel remains stalled at 20,000 words 🙁
If only I could NOT be a writer, life would be so much easier! But somehow I just don’t know how not to write things, dammit.

Things are not at all bad on my end. Just handed in first draft of currently-as-far-as-we-know 3rd and final book on my contract. Which is both very awesome and kind of sad. Have a short thing to write for next week (unpaid but with prospects…) and a longer non-contracted thing to get on with asap now the book is done and before the second draft edit hits.
I bought and am loving Confessions and 250 Things. (99 cents translates to 82p in British money. BARGAIN.) I haven’t managed to read any of your fiction yet, for which I feel vaguely guilty, but Double Dead is very solidly on my radar.

Right now, I’m letting Exposing Dallas (http://www.lmawson.com/exposingdallas.htm)sit while I write it’s sequel, Dissecting Dallas, and then I’ll go back to it for one of the final edits. Hope to release Exposing Dallas around Christmas. Otherwise, I’ve got Stolen Prey and The Lothgoliar our in the world in paperback and eBook (although Kobo’s been having major stocking issues so I’m still waiting for it to get in there).

Re: Comic project
From previous experience, the trouble is going to be finding a good artist, because if an artist is good, they’re already doing comics professionally. And the page rate for a pro artist is beyond most people’s means, and they don’t have time anyway because they’re doing it for reals!
Kickstarter is an option, and there have been several high profile success stories from there. But I kinda wonder whether the Kickstarter bubble is going to burst pretty soon as it gets inundated with more and more “mediocre” projects (for want of a better description), like the Kindle being saturated with self-published spam content.

Jeff Chapman says:
I already have 250 Things, but COAFPM will be new to me (ordering it now). Will have to figure out what to do with the extra copy.
As for projects, well I’m not a pen monkey jut yet. Probably more of an ink badger. Anyhow, I do have a half-cooked novella for a class I’m taking on novella writing. I know the writing world doesn’t give a rat’s wet fart that I’m taking classes, but it’s fun and gets me out of the house. Oh, and there’s nothing better than a deadline to get something done. Serious.

Dealing with the aftermath of a wildfire that got WAY too close. Let me tell you, firefighters are the best folks in the world! Finding time to work on new novel a few hours and a couple thousand words a day.
Trying to find a good editor for my first novel so I can birth it into the world and move on. I’d really like an experienced editor, I’m just not sure what to expect as far as cost, etc. Advice? Recommendations? Anyone?
Also cats. Lots of cats at my house. We just replaced some rugs.

Project… projects…
Working on a short movie. I co-wrote it and I’m directing it. We should start filming by the end of the month. Unless someone screws something up. It’s called Lazarus, and is a zombie movie.
I’m working on getting a gig as a freelancer at a few magazine/websites. Two right now that I’m really focusing on.
Working on a series of short stories that I’m either going to compile into a novel as chapters, or keep as shorts and put together as an anthology. They relate well enough for the first… I’m just not sure what I want to do with it.
And I’m contemplating a Kickstarter for another project. But I need an artist for the project. It’s a comic about Nordic warriors, woo! And Gods…

I’m writing your weekly FridayFlashFictions and posting them on my blog louisesor.wordpress.com (I really enjoy getting into the different worlds each week) Am signing up for my writer’s group this fall, and am coping with the constant disruptions of summer and the holidays. My main novel is on hold, as is at least one more novel idea. I’m studying all the options on the web for publishing, and learning how to write better> more good like.
Also I don’t have a kindle and wd buy COAPM if it was in soft cover, and do a lot of reading at writers’ sites. Reading (sporadically) The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks(yay) and just bought The Host by Stephanie Meyers, after checking first to see the quality of the writing.
Am chuffed for yours and everyones’ efforts and success. Good on y’all. : )

Working on a middle-grade novel, shushing the little doubting voices in my head that can’t seem to decide whether the writing is too old or too young for the audience. (It’s a draft, it’s a draft, it’s a draft…)
Whittling away at some character sketches and worldbuilding for a fantasy novel, mostly still in my head, since my keyboard-time is devoted to the middle-grade.
Eyeing askance the short story that keeps peeking around the corner, tempting me with delicious word candy if I’d only just put down the other stuff and see what’s over here.
Looking forward to the upcoming week’s vacation from my day job, so I can maybe devote some time to all three.

Hard at work on PREY 2, considering a Middle Grade novel to write at nights which will likely move into outlining this week or next, working through many, many novel ideas to find out which are worthwhile, which need to be scrapped, which will likely be melded into other, bigger, better ideas, and which ones just need to bake a little longer.

Jesus, when do you have time to breathe? You’re just hooked into a machine that does that for you, aren’t you? Some cast-iron device with brass nozzles and hoses in uncomfortable places. Like some Steampunk bacta tank.
My zombie short story WORLD’S GREATEST DAD is in a Halloween themed anthology, DEADLY TREATS that just came out today. Amazon’s already sold out, though B&N still has copies. http://bit.ly/qECuOa
Side note: the idea that anything can be sold out anymore just sounds weird to me. I mean, it’s print, so that makes sense, but still. Weird.
Playing around with a comic script for one of my short stories. Started looking at options to find/pay an artist. Kickstarter is a possibility to generate some revenue for it, but I’m not entirely sold on the idea, though I haven’t had a chance to really dig much into the reasons, yet.
I’m supposed to get galleys for my novel CITY OF THE LOST tomorrow. Fascinated to see how that looks. It’s got some internal art by comic artist Sean Phillips that I’m curious to see in context. I’m not looking forward to the whole looking for typos thing, though.
Hoping to get ARCs some time in the next couple of months and pulling together lists of booksellers and review sites to see if I can get copies to them.
Side note two: This whole marketing a book thing is kind of off-putting.
Other than that I’m trying to figure out what my next book is. I’m poking at half a dozen ideas with a stick, but none of them are hollering loud enough, yet.

@Chuck
I may have some game journo leads you’d be interested in.
In general (oh so self-indulgent):
-I’ve been writing/compiling game-journo related writing advice articles for an upcoming project
-Chipping away at a long-term non-fiction book project exploring the music of geek/gamer culture
-Getting back into the freelance pitch groove after a couple of rough months work-wise. Had a few good gigs evaporate all at once, managed to rekindle some old gig fires.
-Trying to find time to f$%#% play some video games for fun again!
-Biting my nails in anticipation of the Minecraft Adventure Update.
-Being a word nerd.
-Making my own beer, the latest of which is faux satanic: “Black Metal IPA” (stirred pentagrams into the foam. TASTY-Evil).
That is all.

Putting in some hours toward quitting my job and starting a career. The current front is a video game company that I’ve freelanced for (well, I thought) but they’re being coy responding to job inquiries. I may also have game-writing and writing-about-games stuff in the pipelines, but that depends upon our mutual friend we know from that place.

Working on –
1) Revisions of an apocalyptic YA novel (X-Men meets S.M. Stirling)
2) Pushing the hell out of Knight Moves, the smartass vampire book I just released
3) percolating on Book 4 of The Black Knight Chronicles – got the rough outline in my head
4) First drafting on Copycat, a serial killer thriller
5) Dragging my way through my to-read list, just finished Spider’s Bite this weekend and started the last Pat Rothfuss book. Jesus Fuck, he’s a helluva writer.
6) Last week of performances for The Irish Curse a great comedy about guys with little peckers (written by Martin Cassella, the guy who ripped his face off in Poltergeist)
7) Drinking like a college kid and getting ready for Dragon Con

My third novel, CIRCLE OF ENEMIES, comes out at the end of the month. Del Rey is doing a promotion for it, lowing the price of the ebooks of my first two novels: Book one, CHILD OF FIRE, is only 99 cents.
I’ve also put five short stories and novelettes on sale for the Kindle and the Nook at the same price.
As for what I’m working on, that’s Totally Secret (and kinda dull).

@Chuck: Been drawing again lately (check it out on my blog if you please), and trying to shop around my third story for print. I’ve gotten a wee-little-taste of success…NOW MUST HAVE MORE. Oh, and of course, there’s the occasional participation in your FF challenges, and the novel-in-(slow)-progress.

I am already the proud owner of both books for the Kindle reader on my phone, but will gladly pass along the word.
As for my self? I’m champing at the bit for Wednesday when the kidlets go back to school and my writing time increases dramatically. At which time I’ll be hard at work on my novel, GOLGOTHA STOMP. Once I begin to get some traction there, I’ll be re-engineering a rather unique (I hope) spin on a superhero project.
August 15, 2011 — 1:23 PM
Nathan Meunier says:
@Roger: Nice drawings! Dig the demonic vibe. Also, this beer is going to be so good! I’m about to bottle it. It’s been fermenting (festering with evil) for a few weeks. Tasted a sample, and my face melted off with awesomeness. I’m entering it into a local homebrew competition. Think it’s going to be one of my favorite batches so far.
In general:
Noticed there’s a ton of fiction folks around these parts. Makes sense, obviously, but I’m curious how many non-fiction heads we’ve got in the crowd. Writing fiction isn’t my bag, and I’m looking for other writerly folks to read.

Love the title of the first Atlanta Burns novella. And me? Other than the stuff locked up under NDA, I’m clawing my way back to the space opera that desperately wants to be smarter than the Dollar Store Barbie clothes I want to dress it in. I’m putting my book proposal package together and compiling a list of agents and publishers. I’ve decided to try the traditional route first and if I can’t get a nibble by 2013, I’m going to epub the bastard. I’m also spraying teflon on my ego for when those rejection letters glut my inbox. However, I’m drawing inspiration from my book’s character, who had the persistent of a mouth ulcer.
I’ve outlined and sketched my next middle grade book which I think will have more commercial appeal. Also, I have a childrens book idea.
I have a supernatural comedy idea I’d like to develop after the middle grade novel is complete.
As for my ebook, Farting in Church, it has sold a couple of dozen copies.
I’d like to shamelessly plug my writing bud’s novel, The Dressage Chronicles available at Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/3hwm2bm.

P. Kirby says:
I spent the weekend working on edits and revisions on my upcoming novel, The Canvas Thief (Carina Press 2012). My changes are due back today (or possibly last week). If it weren’t for last minute, I wouldn’t get anything done.
I need to do more promote-y stuff for my current release, The Music of Chaos. I need to get some stuff together for the Art in the Park show this coming weekend (media=metal). The house looks like it’s been attacked by rabid space monkeys. The grass has gotten so tall, I can’t find the dog. So backlogged on laundry, I’m debating going out and just buying new clothes (especially undies).
Just another day in the desert.

Dan Wright says:
All of the stuff posted so far looks sounds really cool. I wish I had more time so I could read it all.
Right now I’m working on a few things, the first of which is finally finishing the editing for my 8th Age stories posted on my website. Both take place in a low fantasy setting and are filled to the brim with love lost, espionage, betrayal, adventure, excitement and knives in the dark. The first is Paragon, a series of short stories centered around a secret agent dedicated to protecting his king and country but at the same time struggling with the morally questionable things he is ordered to commit. It’s a medieval-setting spy story in the vein of John LeCarre.
I’m hoping to have the completed and edited first story of the series, The Vassal War, posted on my website http://8thage.blogspot.com by the end of the week. Fingers crossed.
Other than that I’m shopping around a few short stories to other genre websites and magazines. Only a few bites here and there though. So it goes.

I already have a copy of 250 Things, but I was short CoaFPM — that has been remedied. I’ll give the extra copy of 250 Things to my brother. He will enjoy it immensely.
As for me: the indie video game for which I wrote the script is nearing release. The game is called Achron, and it’s a RTS game with free-form time travel in single and multi-player modes. It’ll be out in the wild on August 29th — first at the website (www.achrongame.com), and later on Steam.
I’m currently writing short stories for their website as ancillary material. The shorts are under About->Anachronisms, if you’re so inclined.
I’m also in the planning stages of other work for Hazardous Software, as well as my first novel. And still working 9-to-5 for someone else.

Chuck, Thanks for the chance to pimp the projects.
I’ve decided to epub my first novel, Bee Candy, so I’m working of final edits and cover design.
I’m almost done with the second round of revisions on novel number 2. As soon as that’s finished, I’ll to finish the draft of novel three (can’t wait). Oh also, I’m collaborating with a local band on a non-fiction book about independent music.
Since school is starting this week, I’ll be writing even more just to keep my teaching life in perspective:).

As for your Kickstarter project, I’m thinking about doing the same to see about getting some funding through kickstarter to release a chapbook with commissioned art work from local artists here in Portland, OR. Its tentatively titled ‘Fic+Poetry From The 5th Dimension.’ Hope to release it in December, we’ll see how things go with Kickstarter.
Much luck with the Kickstarter project! Let me know if you’ll do submissions for the project as I’d love to stick a short fic in there.

I dropkicked the day job today and that means not having to get on a plane till the end of September. Thrills. I have set aside most of the next six weeks for writing and related mayhem. First on the docket is shopping about Novel #1 – the last batch of rejections contained some encouraging feedback and suggested agencies. Nice. Second is finishing the final edit on Novel #2 and sailing it out the door like a rectangular frisbee with New York written on the label. Then there are the pile of first-draft manuscripts to organize for round two of the pruning and clipping process – seven in all.
There’s a nonfiction book review request. Another nonfiction offer for collaboration (I’m waffling on this one because the previous one required a lot of time for little recompense).
I’ve also committed to three new workshop series (as participant), and then there’s all the web development for Fall. Ack. And flash fiction of course, via terribleminds.

Awesome projects! Can’t wait to see how they turn out. 🙂
Me: was laid off a month ago so I am looking to ramp up studio work. If anyone has any photography/illustration needs I am available.
I am also working on some illustrated children’s book ideas, other commissioned work, and putting together some creative resources for artists. Also looking for exhibit space for some work. Planning a tentative photography trip northeast to add to my body of work, and also considering a kickstarter project. 🙂

I’ve got a short story in a YA Literary magazine. I’m happy with that. I’m also working on another short story about gaming. Also, trying to find time to work on the “gun porn” thing.

I’ve got a short story that I’m trying to get just a little more feedback on before I send it out into the world. There’s another story that I started that I want to finish the first draft of. And I have a novel that I wrote by hand last year that I’m working on typing so I can edit it.
