It’s hard out there for us creative types. Getting the word out is tricky business.
So, let’s open the comments below for you to get out word about [Insert Your Project Name Here]. In lieu of an interview today pimping a particular author, you should feel free to pimp yourself. Why pimp here, you ask? Well, this month I’m averaging 11-12k readers a day. Hopefully, you’ll reach new audience?
Fingers crossed.
But but but. There’s a catch.
Here’s how this works:
You can, as noted, pimp your work.
Anything at all.
Novel. Blog. Comic. Movie. Napkin with a drawing of your penis on it. WHATEVER.
Ah, but —
You must also pimp something else by someone else.
Alternately, you can of course just be a pop culture altruist and recommend something to us without pimping any of your own work. Which would be lovely of you, you lovely human.
So, hop to it. Strap on a corset and some garters and shake that moneymaker.
Which was originally typed as “monkeymaker.”
I think I like that better, actually.
Anyway. Do your thing.
Oh! And do peruse the comments. Might find something you like, after all.

A book blog in which the author, Raych, rates the books on a one-to-ten caterpillar scale. I love everything about it.

My blog, which is a hybrid book review and life with diabetes blog. I read almost as much as I deal with the diabetes, which is all the damn time, but the books lately have gotten the most postage love. “Irregular Creatures” will be up shortly.
psst – It was awesome.

The last book I FELL IN LOVE WITH was Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers. Amazingly written tale of teenage assassins in the 1400s Europe. Everyone should read it.
I have a book coming out in early 2013 called City of a Thousand Dolls. It’s about a girl in a caste-based society who has to solve a murder. Also there are assassins. (Seems to be a theme with me….)

I’m the creator of FAR WEST, a setting that mixes Spaghetti Westerns, Chinese Wuxia, and Steampunk — which we’re exploring as a tabletop RPG, a fiction line, comics, music, a webseries and more. The official site is here: http://intothefarwest.com
The first fiction anthology, featuring the Esteemed Mr. Wendig hissownself, along with other such luminaries as Scott Lynch, Matt Forbeck, Tessa Gratton, Your Humble Narrator and more is called TALES OF THE FAR WEST, and is available digitally and in print from Amazon and other fine booksellers.
Now for the pimping of others: YA author Tim Byrd has reclaimed the rights to his Doc-Savage-pulp-inspired character DOC WILDE, and will be rereleasing the first book, DOC WILDE AND THE FROGS OF DOOM, before following up with the others his Big 6 Publisher never got around to (DOC WILDE & THE MAD SKULL and DOC WILDE & THE DANCE OF THE WEREWOLF) by the end of the year. He’s launching a Kickstarter tomorrow. Details can be found here at his blog: http://tim-byrd.com/2012/03/27/the-doc-wilde-adventures-kickstarter-begins-this-friday-33012/

I personally don’t have anything published, as of yet. I’m focusing more on editing.
On that note; however, I would like to tell y’all about a good friend of mine, Trent Zelazny, yes he is Roger Zelazny’s son, and one hell of a writer in him own right. He is having a promotion right now for his book Fractal Despondency ( http://www.amazon.com/Fractal-Despondency-ebook/dp/B004V0D3V8/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1333034731&sr=1-1) I highly recommend him, his writing, usually in the crime realm, is dark and brooding.

Anyway, I’m a rookie writer (can’t call myself an aspirng writer for fear that Chuck will castrate me for such a blasphemous term) and have a blog that explores creativity. It’s also a place I throw up short stories that incite a similar reaction. Check it out if you get a chance: http://www.hollandz.com
Along with Chuck’s blog to help me on my quest to not suck as a sucky writer, I also dig the skills of one John Magnet Bell at Start Your Novel. http://www.startyournovel.com

Angela Beegle says:
I want to pimp a book I picked up at the library, called ‘The Sexual History of London’ by Catharine Arnold. If you want to put a deep and realistic perspective on sexuality, rather than feeling as though Western society has always been stuff, stodgy and repressive, you’ll enjoy this non-fiction book that takes you from the Romans to the present. There’s truly nothing new under the sun. Although there’s some old fads that have, interestingly enough, never really come back into vogue.
Now I pimp my own work: the Werewolves of Washington series, of which the first 3 are available and another 4 actually written and waiting to be edited.
Creede White gets into a motorcycle crash that changes his life irrevocably. First he finds himself turning into a wolf, then this bossy older guy named Frank starts taking over his life, and then he bites his own sister. Oops.
It gets worse. A local sheriff’s deputy starts to investigate a pack-related death, and winds up needing to be silenced…permanently. And then there’s Benny, whose bright idea of getting video proof of werewolves backfires spectacularly. The moron.
Written to be clean enough for my 70 year old mom to enjoy, it’s safe for young teens too. No gore, no glitter. Especially, no glitter.

My blogs love each other so much, they’ve decided to get married and become one in a Kristen Lamb-inspired (http://warriorwriters.wordpress.com) ceremony, officiated by me – because I’m ordained, and I can. Anyone can attend the reception.
I’m also a huge fan of Kim at My Inner Chick (http://www.myinnerchick.com), who writes with such raw emotion that she consistently takes my breath away.

Naturally, the Alliance also has a Facebook presence at http://www.facebook.com/TheAllianceOfWorldbuilders.
Next up: Me! I blog at htt:suddenlytheyalldied.com and it’s a good time. There’s lots of short stories mixed in with haiku and wacky tales of parenthood, all rolled up in a jelly roll and topped with a little pink bow. Well, maybe not…ooo, donut…
I recently released an anthology of said haiku (and a few other poems to round things out because haiku are short, yo) and you can find it in the CreateSpace eStore (https://www.createspace.com/3798490 ) or on Amazon. An e-book version is also available through Amazon, and you can find both versions by heading here: http://www.amazon.com/author/kaykauffman.

Ooh thanks for this!
1) I’m Shannon and I blog over at http://isleofbooks.wordpress.com. I mostly do book reviews (but only of things that I love). I also have author spotlight, series spotlight, and featured poem segments. I love writing reviews for literary events around San Diego and I occasionally post my thoughts on the writing life/ my own work. I also do book reviews for http://thedarkglobe.wordpress.com, a cool collaborative blog that covers pretty much everything. This is where I stick my “normal” book reviews, e.g. thinks I like, but didn’t love or potentially hated. I’m also one of the editors at Alchemy journal (alchemy.ucsd.edu), which is a brand-new translation journal based out of UC-San Diego. We just launched our first issue 🙂
2) I’m actually pimping a site that published my work (haha), but it is still a really cool thing they’ve got going on. hootreview.com is a cool place where they print micro-fiction/micro-poetry on a postcard with some cool art. Basically, they are a lit mag on a postcard. As they say, “a brief, displayable, shareable literary magazine”.

In terms of pimping, I would like to promote Jade Zivanovich, the amazing artist who did the art of my cover. Her work astounds me. You can see some of her paintings on her deviant art page. http://vj-helm.deviantart.com/ or her website: http://artofjez.webs.com/
I would also say that if you’re looking for a complex read with a character that takes you to the edge of discomfort, you shouldn’t look further than Chuck Wendig’s Atlanta Burns book, Shotgun Gravy. http://www.amazon.com/Shotgun-Gravy-Atlanta-Burns-ebook/dp/B005VEEVXW I’ve read a lot of indie published books in the past 6 months. My one published work so far is a short story called “Cue the Sax.” It based on the style of the old radio dramas of the ’40’s and ’50’s. http://www.amazon.com/Cue-the-Sax-ebook/dp/B006ZA2NHM/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_1
It’s the first of a series including shorts, novellas, and novels.
For books, Krista D Ball seems pretty pumped about the cover for her upcoming fantasy novel “Tranquility’s Blaze.” http://kristadball.com/2012/03/now-that-is-what-i-call-epic/
For music, Kate Miller-Heidke has a new album coming out. For those unfamiliar, she’s an Australian folk/pop singer, who also happens to be a classically trained opera singer who has performed n the Sydney Opera and recently in London. Her version of Britney Spears’ “Toxic” or Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady” are not for everyone, but really incredible. http://www.katemillerheidke.com/
And, no pimping post would be complete without Here Come the Mummies. A (currently) 9 Piece funk band dressed as mummies. So, most of the songs are about sex, and they specialize in double (and single) entendres, but they are seriously talented. http://www.herecomethemummies.com/

Man, everyone else gets an avatar. Y’all are regulars, huh? Hello. Hi. Yeah.
Appalling at self-pimping. I wrote a thing. It’s short, it’s cheap, it’s funny, I think it’s at least a little hot. It will offend 98% of you at the very least. First-person memoir novella about a London rentboy and his experiences. Woo? amzn.to/H1m4Ef
Pimping stuff by others, wow so much easier. I’m extremely proud of the anti-PayPal stance taken by No Boundaries Press over the last few months, so props to them. Plus they do gay YA and that’s fantastic for young queer kids.

However, if you are ever in Chicago please let me recommend some amazing local bookstores where you can buy all sorts of things: Myopic (http://myopicbookstore.com/) and Uncharted (http://www.unchartedbooks.com/)
Finally, I’m in the beginning stages of a project to remix works in the public domain. If it’s a thing that might interest you, here’s a link to our Tumblr. It should be fun, I think. I want it to be fun.

Thanks so much for the opportunity, Chuck! I’d like to recommend the Downside series (urban fantasy) by Stacia Kane (http://staciakane.net). Dark and gritty with a tremendously flawed yet heart wrenching heroine.
My Warriors of the Rift series has its first book (KISS OF THE VAMPIRE) available, with a short novella (INTO THE RIFT) coming out on May 1st and the second novel (SECRET OF THE WOLF) available on July 1st. The series is paranormal romance with a touch of sci fi and a pinch of urban fantasy. More info at http://cynthiagarnerbooks.com.

No harm ever came from drawing a comic, right?
Or so my protagonist in The Canvas Thief, thinks. Maya Stephenson is a terrific artist with gift for imbuing her drawings and sketches with an “almost” lifelike sense of gesture and movement. And then one of her graphic novel characters breaks into her house…
The Canvas Thief is available from Carina Press, Amazon and Audible. Buy links and excerpts can be found here: http://www.patriciakirby.com/blog/?page_id=179
The Canvas Thief is written in the same “universe” as The Music of Chaos, my quirky urban fantasy and debut novel. The Music of Chaos is currently JUST $2.99 at Amazon, and $2.50 from the publisher, Decadent Publishing!

I’m currently pimping the first book of my horror/sci-fi series Everything Theory. Best of all, it’s on sale for $1.19 through April 1st. A few blurbs:
“Everything Theory is a dark and creepy ride that takes you right into the lair of the things that go bump in the night.”
-Robert Swartwood, author of The Serial Killer’s Wife and Man of Wax
“The Sixth Sense meets The X-Files…Barry Napier does an outstanding job of drawing you into the storyline while teasing you with glimpses of the larger world to come. Everything Theory: Cold Compass is a veritable page turner that will leave you begging for the next book, and has all the qualities of being an epic series.”
-Gabriel Beyers, author of Guarding the Healer
And now some other recommendations!
Run – Blake Crouch
Loathsome, Dark, and Deep – Aaron Polson
Red Church – Scott Nicholson

Thanks for this opportunity to put my bidness in the street, so to speak.
I present DON’T BE CRUEL, a comic crime novel about bad people doing bad things, badly.
It has strippers, Elvis impersonators, death by fried chicken.
John Skipp has called it “Elmore Leonard on laughing gas.” Brian Keene named it once of his top 10 books of 2011. Victor Gischler, author of the great Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse, called it “fast and funny.”
One reviewer called it “delightfully goofy” and another called it “consistently funny, profane and gratuitously outrageous.”

Ooo! Me next! I have 3 comics I’d like to pimp.
Sarah Bryant is just a normal girl- racing motorcycles, fixing cars, and waiting for more tabloid reporters to show up to bother her. Sarah grew up reading all the stories about the giant robot that is supposedly hidden on her parent’s ranch. It also supposedly saved the world from an alien invasion. And she doesn’t believe a word of it. That is, until three men show up with laser guns and try to kill her! Now Sarah must unravel the secrets of the giant robot Adrastus and fight off the coming invasion of Earth. But she may not be able to do it before the invaders turn her and Adrastus in to a weapon for themselves!
Updates Tuesdays and Thursdays at http://adrastuscomic.com
Leylines, set in a rich and incredible fantasy world, is the story of three siblings from a broken family. They get caught up in a conspiracy surrounding the death of their mother. To save their family and their nation, they must seek out Ancient Gods for answers. But the gods give nothing for free.
Updates Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at http://leylinescomic.com/
Shadowbinders starts with average girl Mia receiving a ring that once belonged to her grandfather. When she puts the ring on though she finds that it has the power to transport her to a world of magic, monsters, and flying ships! There she meets Crimson Rhen and the crew of the True North. Steampunk fun and incredible art!

Three books I’ve read recently and loved, and therefore would like to pimp on behalf of their authors:
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, in which an angel falls in love with a demon and things end very badly. Nebula nominated this year.
Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake, in which a ghost hunter falls in love with a murderous ghost and things end very badly…sensing a theme here?
His Good Opinion by Nancy Kelly (Pride and Prejudice told from Mr. Darcy’s point of view)
And, I would (of course) love it if you checked out my blog (http://mirandasuri.wordpress.com/) in which I review books, talk about writing, and occasionally muse on the joys of culinary overindulgence.

My pimp is for Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate Series. Steampunk with a soulless main character, werewolves, vampires and ghosts. Also, tea and a BFF with a penchant for strange headwear. So sad to see that the series has come to an end!
As for me, I have two story collections out right now. The 6:1 series features flash and short stories. Six stories in each volume, all based on one theme. You can find links to these ebooks in the spiffy slideshow widget in my blog’s sidebar: Janel’s Jumble

That’s my story blog, even though almost everything I’ve written thus far I’m hardly fond of. 14 and started writing stories a few months back…. but, whatever.
And I’ll suppose I’ll advertise this cool metal reviews blog that I’ve come across. So, if you’re into metal… clicky.

I’ll promote first, because I love this girl. A close personal friend of mine, shortly after turning 30, literally quit her day job and decided to become an author. Less than a half a year later, she’s got 2 books out (self-pub’d), several blogs, thousands of followers on facebook/twitter for her various projects, and… well, several projects. Her main focus is promoting love and appreciation in all forms, and her love letters website even allows you to share your own love letters, pictures, videos, etc. I really believe in what she’s doing, and though she is gaining quick momentum and local attention, i would like her influence to spread exponentially. You can find her main hub at http://jabsplethora.com, where she has links and summaries from all of her blogs and websites, including all the various links to FB, twitter, tublr, g+… really she’s got the social networking thing down.
now for my own bit of humility, I write a (mostly) weekly blog over at http://selfsagax.blogspot.com I try to keep it entertaining, sometimes short stories, sometimes weirder bits… sometimes i have to resort to bitching about shit. I write this purely for my own enjoyment, and readers are just a crack habit for me. At this point, i do not monetize (much) and have no plans to try and do so, but if i start getting a shit-ton of readers, i will try to write a hell of a lot more. so go to the site. Fuckers.
Smooches!

Also, seriously, Chuck Wendig, right? I’m loving this guy’s stuff. I’ve plowed through CoaFPM, Double Dead, Shotgun Gravy, and 250 things, and this guy paints some fucking great metaphors and tells a damn fine tale. I know it’s pointless to promote him on his own blog, but… seriously, If you just found him randomly through somebody posting an article he wrote… fuckin buy something. I have not regretted a single penny i’ve spent on Wendig’s stuff.
Also… Dat Beard…

Thanks, Chuck! I really appreciate the opportunity.
My Lian and Figg, quirky urban fantasy series is available on amazon. Both Voodoo Dues and Vampire Blues are just $.99! I’m also having a contest on my blog. One lucky reviewer can win a $100 visa or amazon gift card.
As for pimping others, if you’re up for some light and funny chick-lit/PNR, check out Evelyn Lafont’s vampire series here. Or if you’re in the mood for something darker, I recommend Stacia Kane’s Downside books.

My self-pimpage: my recent collection of short stories, To Unimagined Shores. 17 SF & F tales previously published in various anthos & magazines, available in print and ebook at Amazon, Smashwords, B&N, all the usual suspects.
My pal pimpage: a new collection of very short fiction by fellow Canadian writer Mark A. Rayner, Pirate Therapy & Other Cures (find print & Kindle versions at Amazon). If you like bizarrely funny and strange satire and intriguingly absurd humour, this book is for you!

I’m pimping my Pocket Novel, Infestation and…well, does it count that I’m pimping the ENTIRE project? They’re awesome individual short stories and try to focus on printing unpublished authors so they can get that ever important first publishing credit! A short story at $2 each is pretty sweet!

Fun! So much stuff here I want to check out!
Moi: Recently launched my blog, http://constantscribe.tumblr.com/
It’s just learning to walk right now, but it’s (going to be) about the process of walking completely blind into the world of freelance writing after a very abrupt and unforeseen career change – with the occasional movie/book review (‘Shotgun Gravy’ will be first up, as soon as I finish it!) and the odd personal thingy.
Someone else: My very talented partner at http://www.andrerehal.com. He’s a filmmaker from Toronto and, in my very biased opinion, makes the best music videos (all featuring local talent!) & shorts.

Thanks for an awesome opportunity, Chuck!
First, a pimp for myself and my co-writer S Reesa Herberth. The latest novel in our Ylendrian Empire series, “The Slipstream Con”, is now available in paperback! Warning: This book contains an anti-hero with no qualms about redecorating your spaceship, a heroine capable of killing you with her hair stick, and another hero who would like nothing more than to shag them both without the inconvenience of a conscience. For those who like a little romance in their science fiction and a little science fiction in their romance. the Slipstream Con – Amazon
And a pimp for a great author and friend, Connor Wright. First Flight is sweet and funny and unusual. How many romance stories do you see out there that involve shapeshifting ravens? Check it out!

Great initiative!
Since I don’t have anything to show regarding my own project (yet), I’ll pimp for a friend of mine who’s the reason I found this blog: Steven Savile.

There’s a great deal of varied stuff, and I can especially recommend ‘London Macabre’, for those of you who like occult victoriana – and who doesn’t?
