AND WE ARE BACK.
*waves*
The holidays are over, and the time to commence with great wordsmithy is upon us. And by “great,” I mean, ennnh, you know, a thousand words or so. Let’s jump in with a theme, or, rather, the hint of a theme — the overall topic is the danger of undeserved power. What that means to you or says to you is yours alone.
Get writing.
Length: ~1000 words

Happy to join the fun. Here’s a little piece for you: The King’s Man. http://www.adamkorenman.com/s/The-Kings-Man.docx
Adam–wow. Well done. I enjoyed this piece. The scene was vivid, and of course fit in perfectly with this week’s theme.
Thank you so much. It was a lot of fun to write.
I liked this. Very “Game of Thrones”-like.
I’m glad you enjoyed. Thank you.
Very realistic and vivid.
This should be fun! When I think of unchecked evil (other than politicians), my mind automatically goes to cats.

That was fun! Had to research grid iron uniform parts – but it’s worth it to get those things right.
But I’ve been writing over Christmas too… and so wrote a 7-part Christmas story including Krampus and other characters too. I had great fun doing it. 😀
I loved the twist at the end. Great story!
Thank you! I enjoyed writing… and in high school, when is anyone ever serious in a relationship? 😛
LOL nice
Very intriguing. I like the ending.
Chuck – Happy New Year!
Here you go: https://lpstribling.wordpress.com/2018/01/07/presidential-cup/
I know this is fiction, but it didn’t feel like it!
Thank you. Tons of fun to write.
yep… This could be a true story. Well done!
Yes, I can see that happen, too. Well done.
When is power ever deserved?
Here’s a little ditty…I just couldn’t do politicians, so I did the next best thing. High school.

I really enjoyed this. I left a comment on your blog.
Thanks! Much appreciated 🙂
Everything was going great for Christina until Tae showed up. Wasn’t expecting the little surprise twist at the end. Great work!
Thanks… can’t help but add in supernatural somethings…
Excellent!
Well done. I think I had flashbacks while reading this! lol
This was fun and satisfying to read.
691 words. I had fun with this, and it felt good to flex my writing muscles again!

Not what I was expecting. Nicely done.
Thank you!
Excellent!
Thank you Tanya.
Well done! It is so good reading everyone’s interpretations.I also followed your blog 🙂
Thanks Amberley!
Too true. The unfit to rule usually get theirs but unfortunately take so many with them.
Yes, Chuck, the Flash Fiction Challenge is back. And not a jaysus moment too soon. Thank you. http://grahamwho.com/grahamwrites/2018/01/08/flash-fiction-apatheto/
A superb job. I always enjoy a good bit of superhero fiction.
Completely different interpretations, nice job!
Very interesting take on the subject.
Ha. Fabulous.
My first time submitting to this (I had to create a writing blog!), but the subject matter spoke to me cause… *gestures vaguely at everything.* Here’s 1k words about going mad with power but it’s a greek tragedy instead of modern politics.

Amazing. I loved your metaphors and similes. And the ending was incredible. So well done. Keep posting. You have talent.
This was fun to read! I LOVE greek mythology (really, if I’m being honest ALL of the mythology). Well done. Write more!!! (like in general, not on this story per se, I think it was fantastic and wouldn’t change the length of it).
Two main things I love… your story and the name of your blog. This was great.
I liked the reworking of the myth. This “pitiful olives” pairing tickled me.
1090 words – https://wp.me/p4le2s-1Zc
Nice alternate earth. Well done.
I certainly want to know more about these characters.
Here we go! http://thefoundbird.blogspot.co.uk/2018/01/flash-fiction-danger-of-undeserved-power.html
I loved the ending! I was not expecting that. Great use of the prompt.
I could feel the fear and desperation.
Here’s my little story: https://lunarwriter.com/flash-fiction-the-danger-of-undeserved-power/
We can all give up our “goodness” when pushed.
I’m glad the holidays are over. This was one was a blast. Coming in at a sparse 898 words- POWER

Clever ending. I left a comment on your blog.
I like the process he went through. Shame it took him so long.

Defintely kept my attention.
Thanks
Here’s mine… It’s pretty dark, but then again it isn’t. Under 800 words… let me know if it needs more!

Good job of capturing the situation. A lot of tension.
That was intense and riveting.

A little late to the party. Trump-haters, look again at the undeserved power right under your nose.

Tough to read, but certainly how it happens, regardless of ideology.
It was a bit self-examining. I’m a Trump hater myself. But Parenting is the first job / only job God gave parents. Thanks Vanessa.
Agreed. If people took care of their immediate circles first, the world would be better all around.
All I could think of was politicians abusing power… So in the end I went with it. Any similarity with reality is coincidence.
Simply Business: https://medium.com/@VicenteLRuiz/simply-business-997a3d6e1e75
That was chilling. Well done.
Thank you!
Took me a while to get this done because I wanted very much not to be political with it. Hopefully I succeeded. It’s a bargain at only 277 words. Please to enjoy :Underserved”.
https://sambrady.wordpress.com/2018/01/11/chuck-wendig-undeserved/
Good Lord. I did it again. I swear, every time I tried to write the word Undeserved it came up as Underserved. Maybe my story should have been about food.
I like the comparison to an author’s powers.
This is my first time playing. https://goldennib.blogspot.com/2018/01/the-mind-of-melissa.html
Your first paragraph is very powerful. Nicely done.
Thank you for reading it, Anne.
Whoa, your story is really something! It’s creepy, the way she slowly acquires her power and how her actions grow… into what they grow (no spoilers)!
Thanks for reading. I’m glad you found her disturbing. 🙂
Not sure if this fulfills the premise exactly, but I had fun so there’s that.
“Accident of Birth” https://hedwig-dordt.dreamwidth.org/7433.html
I really enjoyed this. Very funny. I hope it’s part of a longer piece.
