It’s that time, again.
You want to promote something story-based? A book? A comic? A movie? A game? Here’s where you do it. Drop into the comments below, and give a (preferably short) head’s up to the Awesome Work you did. Hey, include links, too, so we can check out whatever it is you want us to see.
But —
But.
Here’s the caveat.
You must also promote one other thing that is not by you.
That’s your ticket through the door.
Promote someone else.
Promote yourself in return.
Fail that, and I’ll delete your comment. Or worse, kick it into the SPAM OUBLIETTE.

Thanks for the promo opp 🙂
Dark Matter Zine (http://www.darkmatterfanzine.com/) is ‘down the rabbit hole exploring culture, literature and publishing’, with a very strong science fiction/fantasy focus stemming from DMZ’s roots. The website features
* interviews with authors & publishers (http://www.darkmatterfanzine.com/dmf/category/interview/)
* reviews of books, movies, TV etc (http://www.darkmatterfanzine.com/dmf/category/review/)
* guest blogs from authors http://www.darkmatterfanzine.com/dmf/category/guest-blog/
and much more.
There are SO MANY books I’d like to squee about so I’ll squee about two (I hope that’s ok).
1) Jo Spurrier’s Children of the Black Sun beginning with Winter be my shield: I’ve interviewed Jo herself http://www.darkmatterfanzine.com/dmf/jo-spurrier/. Jo’s world-building is detailed and unique with wonderful characters even including an evil, evil villain WHO IS A SYMPATHETIC CHARACTER (to a point) but what I love the most is a protagonist acquires a disability, doesn’t get healed and doesn’t leave the story.
2) Melissa Marr’s Carnival of Souls is a YA novel, the first of a trilogy, with complex story lines and an alien culture in the demons and yet it engages seriously with real YA issues like homelessness, boy-prostitution and more.
I have reviewed both but in the interests of not being put in the spam bucket [shifty eyes] I haven’t linked my reviews.

I highly recommend it. It’s a fun take on Hell and brings up interesting ideas about the Seven Deadly Sins. But overall and most of all, it’s funny! Seriously, go get it! The preview of the second in the series promises that the Hell-y goodness shall continue, and I can’t wait.
As for my own self, none of my writing is published (yet, I say, yet) and my Cafe Press store isn’t really “story-based.” I mean, there’s stuff that’s very redhead-centric, but I don’t think that actually qualifies.

I’d like to promote my friend’s fantasy novel (just because she’d my mate doesn’t mean I’m lying to you, though… this is a good read): “Heiress of Healing” (http://www.amazon.com/Heiress-Healing-Seven-Cities-ebook/dp/B00EUIFAYE/) A well-written epic fantasy tale about several strong women in a world that doesn’t value them. The writing is exquisite. The imagination, powerful.
And, of course, I’d like to promote my own debut novel (also happens to be about a healer… but a different kind of healing magic) called: “Healer’s Touch”. My protagonist, Llew, belongs to a race of healers that “heal” by moving life-energy from one person/thing to another… to heal, they must hurt (or kill…). You can read more (like reviewer comments and several purchase links) here: http://deberelene.com/books/ht/
My favourite review line to date: “It reminded me of Joe Abercrombie in style…” (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/752533186)

I would like to, if I may, promo two story-focused blogs. One is by my good friend and writing buddy B. Gunson, a very talented up-and-coming young writer from Northern England who is currently hard at work on his high fantasy series, “The Shadows of Men.” His blog may be found at http://bottomlessblog.wordpress.com/
Our own blog, http://aelowan.wordpress.com/ is based on the urban fantasy series my writing partner and I are currently working on, “The Books of Binding.” Book 1, “Faerie Rising,” is nearing completion and we are expecting to have it in the submission process by Spring 2014. To tease, Winter Mulcahy is the last wizard in the city of Seahaven, WA and all that stands between the fractious preternatural population and total chaos. Holding the city together by the skin of her teeth and the blood of her friends, the young wizard is approached by a pair of Sidhe lords who claim that her city is harboring a fugitive who has kidnapped a Sidhe prince, and that they are on a mission to rescue him. Winter must investigate this fugitive to get to the truth of the kidnapping, discover the cause of the surges of wild magic tearing open rifts between realms across her city, and navigate the deadly waters of preternatural politics before Seahaven both figuratively and literally rips itself apart.
Thanks for your time and consideration!

First me, gotta follow the rules. 😉
I’ve written a series about a chaos mage in a nation mostly ruled by corporations. The first book is “Stricken By Entropy”, in digital publication on most related sites.
In return I’ll mention Chris Moriarty’s “Spin” series, which does not get nearly enough attention. The first book is “Spin State”, a hardcore science fiction spy thriller about a female Korean soldier that’s mindbogglingly complex, conflicted and gripping.

New Year island is a beast of a Mystery/Thriller/Suspense/Horror whodunit. Squeamish types need not apply. What’s it about? Think “And Then There Were None 2013”
THE STAKES ARE HIGH…
Ten strangers, recruited by an edgy new reality show and marooned on an abandoned
island overrun by wildlife.
One dies in a horrible accident.
Nine realize they are all past survivors, alive only because they’ve beaten incredible odds
once before.
One by one, their hidden secrets are revealed.
Eight discover they are trapped. Caught in a game so deadly that the most terrifying
experiences of their lives were only its qualifying round, they must now face the
greatest danger on the island… each other.
There’s nothing deadlier than a survivor-type whose back is against the wall. And one of them is not who he or she claims.
Seven fight to escape.
Six try to solve the mystery of who lured them there and why.
Five… Four… Will anyone survive New Year Island?

My writing buddy Ciar Cullen wrote this awesome paranormal historical. Her characters are broken, emotional, and fun to read. I love her voice:

My own shout out is for a Youth Literary Festival that my work sponsors called Whitsunday Voices Youth Literary Festival. I know 2014 is all booked up, but if any great authors what to inspire young minds about the joy of reading and the craft of writing then this is the place to do it. AND it’s in beautiful Australia, in Mackay where there’s platypus near-by. But if you can’t make it to Australia for it (they have flown people over before) there’s also an online component so you can inspire from the comfort of your lounge room where pants are optional (just don’t stand up while skyping if you go the pantsless option).

I’ll give a shout out to Rebecca M Douglass, whose book The Ninja LIbrarian is brilliant in concept and execution. You can read the sequel too, Return to Skunk Corners. A hick town with an anti-reading culture is changed forever when the Ninja Librarian rolls in! http://www.amazon.com/Ninja-Librarian-Rebecca-Douglass-ebook/dp/B0079NQFAA/
As for my promo, well, the Princelings of the East is a simple tale of time-travelling guinea pigs, living in a feudal world with advanced technology. Ok, it’s not so simple, but what’s not to like?

Well, shoot, I was going to promo you and then me 🙂 Maybe I’ll just do it by saying here, yes, Jemima’s books are great fun, and worth reading! Plus: we both get bonus points for using Chuck’s prompts and still maintaining G or PG blogs!
And the Ninja Librarian books have skunk fu.

My novel The Romance Novel Book Club is a semi-finalist for Reader’s Choice Awards, in the humor category, my publisher is holding. What happens when Patricia tries to get a man that matches all those romance novels she reads instead of seeing the man of her dreams right in front of her?

Now I want to give a shout out to Julie Reese’s book Crux. She weaves in Viking mythology in her YA book. I’m not big on YA book but love mythology in any form so I read it …. and couldn’t put it down. A homeless teenager is destined to stop an event centuries in the making.

My Book is The Seeds. Not your grandmother’s fairy tale. Long after the humans have destroyed the earth, the planet regreens itself. Soon, the Tarols reemerge. A foot tall, they are militant, fierce and more than ready to face the threats that await them. They are not the only race that has emerged.

Hi there and Chuck, thanks for the opportunity.
I’d like to promote the work of an incredibly talented writer and someone that I hold dear. Kindle Alexander is a self published author of gay male romance novels, as am I and her work has constantly reached #1 best selling status on Amazon. She’s a damn hard worker, a lovely lady and her books are worth the read. Check all her books out here :http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Alexander/e/B009Q82Y0G/ref=sr_tc_2_0?qid=1384779682&sr=8-2-ent
I’m also a writer of best selling gay male fiction and you can see all my books on my Author Page at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Susan-Mac-Nicol/e/B008YE9GGI/ref=sr_tc_2_0?qid=1384779736&sr=1-2-ent and on my publishers website http://www.boroughspublishinggroup.com/authors/susan-mac-nicol

Thanks, Chuck. I just had a story published in TWO: The 2nd Annual Stupefying Stories Horror Special (edited by Bruce Bethke). It’s a fine anthology which contains works by Evan Dicken, Jóse Iriarte, Rose Blackthorn, Rebecca Roland, Stone Showers, Yukimi Ogawa, Holly A. Cave, Keith Rosson, Shona Snowden, Anton Sim, L. Joseph Shosty, Simon Kewin, Leah Thomas, Sean Eads, and Nicole Cushing.

And in case promoting an anthology with 15 other authors doesn’t count as promoting someone else, then I’d like to recommend folks check out John McNee’s Grudge Punk. “It’s like the film Sin City set in some town in Mieville’s Bas-Lag, where the citizens are all comprised of meat, metal, fiberglass, and random junkyard scraps.” This is easily one of the best books I’ve read this year.

As my short story collection for kids – Granny Rainbow – isn’t in print til the new year, can I give a shout-out for ‘Stories for Homes’, a world class anthology of stories by established and emerging authors (of which I’m one) raising money for Shelter, a UK based charity working with the homeless?
There are 63 stories – every single one on the theme of ‘home’, yet each one very, very different.
