My novel, Blackbirds, is now free until December 31st.
Free. As in, costs you nothing.
EXCEPT YOUR UNDYING LOVE AND A WILLINGNESS TO KILL IN MY NAME.
Anyway.
You can nab the Kindle file here.
Or you can grab the ePub here.
You can find more information on the download from our Generous Clanking Masters at Angry Robot, whose Beneficent Programming is why this gift exists in the first place.
ALL HAIL THE ANGRY ROBOT.
You can also buy Mockingbird and Blue Blazes for ~$1.30 a pop (info here).
Finally, please consider pre-ordering the third in the Miriam Black series — The Cormorant! — where cantankerous psychic Miriam Black travels down to sunny Florida where she is paid to give a rich man a vision of his demise but instead discovers a message to her written backwards in time and scrawled in blood, a message that reads HELLO, MIRIAM…
Courtney Cantrell says:
NABBED.
Thanks, Angry Robot!
Herr Wendig, my love everlasting, who’s my first target?

Thank you for the free copy of “Blackbirds”, Chuck!
I am spending Christmas alone, recuperating from a year that can only be described as “brutal”. This will be a great read for Christmas Eve through to Boxing Day. I’ve never tried any of your novels before but I suspect I’m about to get addicted and will end up buying EVERYTHING.
Merry Christmas, Chuck – and thank you for this blog and all the writing advice on here.

IrishVixen says:
Something may be wrong with the mobi link–doesn’t open in Kindle app on iOS, Amazon’s “Send to Kindle” function rejects it, and even manually drag & drop onto a Paperwhite produces nothing.
But thank you for the intent, and most especially for all the writing advice this year!
December 24, 2013 — 1:02 AM
terribleminds says:
Oh my. It worked on iOS with my Kindle app — I’ll see if the Robots can poke at it. Thanks!

Having the same issue here. It won’t send to the Kindle via Amazon, and I use the Kindle app on my iPad for my ebooks. (Error email suggests perhaps a password or encryption issue?)
Going to download the epub version, convert it, and see if that works.
But I still appreciate the giveaway.
December 24, 2013 — 10:46 AM
Boston says:
After downloading the epub version, I converted it into a mobi file and did the “send to Kindle” thing via email. Not sure why, but that worked.

I was so happy because I couldn’t afford any gifts this year so I thought reading this would cheer me up. I’m on an old PC with Windows. I just bought Blackbirds two days ago! I had a wee chuckle to myself when I saw this post.
It’s great you’re offering it for free, but I think I’d rather buy it anyway – you needs your whisky! BTW can I recommend either Talisker or any of the Jura whiskies for your next purchases of this fine beverage {I happen to be drinking a Jura whisky mac just now – it is Christmas after all – Yum.}

For the mac users having problems – I’m on iPad using the Kindle app and it worked fine AFTER I closed the book that was already open in the app (just click the link and press that ‘open in kindle’ or whatever it said button).
Again, thanks Chuck! (and Merry Christmas!)

katie says:
It’s a good way to hook people on your books. :> I actually stopped reading for a while (too many kids and work) and got back into reading because Cory Doctorow had his books up for free and I figured “oh, why not…”. Next thing I know, I’m buying books left and right. It helps that the kids are figuring out how to actually sleep. 😀
December 26, 2013 — 10:10 AM
K.Nicole Williams (@Kenesha_W) says:
I had a problem opening it as well. I saved it to my pc and emailed it to my Kindle and got a message basically saying it only supported x types of files (one of which was mobi) so I don’t know what the deal was. I’ll try directly from my Kindle when I get home.

It took some finagling (mostly me finding where the Kindle folder was hiding on macbook Pro—a simple search in the finder show you) but i got it to download to my paperwhite via drag and drop.
But it will not convert if emailing to the kindle as a personal doc, for those still trying.
