More to the point, if you dug\u00a0Wanderers<\/strong>, particularly the near-future sci-fi-horror aspect of it? Then\u00a0Invasive<\/strong> is a good next read for you. It’s got ants! And fungus! And anxiety! And it’s also a very cheap vacation to Hawaii.<\/p>\n

Speaking of\u00a0Wanderers<\/strong> —<\/p>\n

Let’s see, what else. Wanderers has hit a couple more end-of-year-lists, much to my great delight: Bookpage<\/a> and Guardian<\/a> both listed it as top SFF picks from 2019. That’s in addition to Publisher’s Weekly, Kirkus, Library Journal, and also the top books of 2019 at Washington Post. So, I’m… pretty excited that this book has connected so well with readers and critics alike.<\/p>\n

Tim Pratt also reviewed it at Locus<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve always liked big long books about the apocalypse. I read Stephen King\u2019s\u00a0The Stand\u00a0<\/strong>as a teenager, and loved it, as millions of other read\u00aders did; it\u2019s still the gold standard of the form, and Chuck Wendig name-checks King\u2019s classic here. Like\u00a0The Stand<\/strong>, and McCammon\u2019s\u00a0Swan Song<\/strong>, and Cronin\u2019s\u00a0The Passage<\/strong>, and Niven & Pournelle\u2019s\u00a0Lucifer\u2019s Hammer\u00a0<\/strong>(which is also obliquely referenced, I suspect, as\u00a0Wanderers\u00a0<\/strong>has a portentous comet in its opening pages), this isn\u2019t just a post-apocalyptic story: it\u2019s a pre-, peri-, and post-apocalyptic novel, viewed through the eyes of multiple viewpoint characters who have lots of room to strive and suffer across a gener\u00adous and sprawling page count.\u00a0The Wanderers\u00a0<\/strong>holds up just fine in their company.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“What\u2019s so great about this series are the characters that Wendig writes. Miriam isn\u2019t the only one who leaps off of the page. Her girlfriend Gabby and neighbor Steve also pop, as does Wendig\u2019s knack for energetic dialog and crackling prose.\u00a0Vultures\u00a0<\/strong>is a fun and un\u00adexpectedly moving way to close out this part of Miriam\u2019s life.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
