Use the title, the opening line, the closing line. C&#8217;MON PEOPLE JEEZ.<\/p>\n<p>Length is &#8212; well, flash fiction is usually ~1000 words, but let&#8217;s forego any kind of length here and say, &#8220;Just write the damn story.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Post at\u00a0your online space, give us a link.<\/p>\n<p>Due by next Friday, September 8th, noon EST.<\/p>\n<h2>Title<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>We Never Heard Them Coming<\/li>\n<li>I Held Your Heart Once<\/li>\n<li>How To Run While Falling<\/li>\n<li>Once Hidden, Three Times Found<\/li>\n<li>Neptune&#8217;s Rain Cuts Like Diamonds<\/li>\n<li>The Empire Of All-Knowing Eyes<\/li>\n<li>Electric Boy Meets Conductor Girl<\/li>\n<li>When They Called Her Home<\/li>\n<li>The Limits Of Our Imperfection<\/li>\n<li>The Rest Are Your Problem<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Opening Line<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>\u201cListen to the goat,\u201d Valerie said, \u201cit will change your life.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The pale pink rabbit, some child\u2019s lost toy, blinked at him from the kitchen chair.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI told you this was a bad idea!\u201d he shouted.<\/li>\n<li>Three days without sleep was the least of my worries.<\/li>\n<li>Some people don\u2019t follow direction very well.<\/li>\n<li>Martin spread the folders out on the table, \u201cThese two.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The odd man remained silent, forcing a small, copper box into my hands.<\/li>\n<li>The bodies were bobbing on the sea, and a raft drifted behind.<\/li>\n<li>Deep inside the twisting wood, there is a house, in a gully.<\/li>\n<li>No one had ever bothered to tell her about this part.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Closing Line<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Silence blanketed the meadow.<\/li>\n<li>We huddled low in the arroyo as wind wailed across the weeping sands.<\/li>\n<li>She spread her wings and stepped off the cliff.<\/li>\n<li>They would never know what she had done.<\/li>\n<li>And that, my son, is how I learned to wrestle alligators.<\/li>\n<li>And though the light was still blinking in the distance, never again could it harm her.<\/li>\n<li>She plucked a hair from the severed head, and threaded her needle.<\/li>\n<li>The children formed a circle, lifted their heads, and watched as the body disappeared into the sky.<\/li>\n<li>The smoke was blue and grey and smelled like a promise.<\/li>\n<li>I watched the butterfly escape the spiderweb and I laughed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You have given us titles.
