In part because why would I assume that, and also in part because\u00a0<em>most<\/em> books come out on Tuesday and\u00a0<em>this<\/em> book came out on Friday and it was also a holiday weekend and, and, and.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, that was wrongo of me.<\/p>\n<p>Because\u00a0<strong>Aftermath<\/strong> debuted on both the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/best-sellers-books\/2015-09-20\/hardcover-fiction\/list.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>New York Times list<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/life\/books\/best-selling\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>USA Today list<\/strong><\/span><\/a> at number four. Which is extra funny because it&#8217;s a pair of\u00a0<em>fours<\/em> which is like\u00a0<em>Force<\/em> and because my tweet wanting to be hired to write Star Wars in the first place was on September 4th and because the book then came out exactly one year later on September 4th and also because I actually apparently\u00a0<em>have<\/em> the Force. *shoots lightning into the sky*<\/p>\n<p>I continue to have\u00a0people tell me that they really love the book and that they want action figures of Mr. Bones or want to hang out with Sinjir and it makes my heart sing because I&#8217;m hyper-geeked to have been able to ignite my own star in the sky of that universe. Good stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Some more quick Aftermath-links for you:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scifinow.co.uk\/reviews\/star-wars-aftermath-by-chuck-wendig-book-review\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Sci-Fi Now reviews the book<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Coupled with Wendig\u2019s elegant prose, and you have a journey that is both breathtaking yet restrained, throwing you headlong into a story that reaches it\u2019s crescendo at around the half-way point and\u00a0maintains this pace throughout, while subsequently making it clear that all these events are just the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>The clues for what lies ahead are there for those who want to look for them (especially during the intriguing final chapter), but for others this is\u00a0<em><strong>Star Wars<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0fiction at a high standard done well. The Force is strong in this one indeed.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Drew McWeeny did a cool post at HitFix talking about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hitfix.com\/motion-captured\/11-things-we-learned-from-star-wars-aftermath-about-the-force-awakens-world\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>the 11 things you might learn<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0in <strong>Aftermath\u00a0<\/strong>that links you up to the world of\u00a0<strong>The Force Awakens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.themarysue.com\/naboo-hoo-hoo\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The Mary Sue did a post<\/strong><\/span><\/a> about the, erm, fan outrage.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Kuchera wrote <a href=\"http:\/\/www.polygon.com\/2015\/9\/10\/9300685\/star-wars-aftermath-empire-sith\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>a neat thing at Polygon about how his favorite thing about the books are the self-loathing totalitarians<\/strong><\/span><\/a> &#8212; an Empire in disarray and under the gun.<\/p>\n<p>(Note, if for some reason all this good news chafes you because of how much rage the book stirs in you, you may want to consult Molly Templeton&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mollytempleton\/status\/642037816671760384\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>AFTERMATH NERD RAGE bingo chart<\/strong><\/span><\/a> for ease of emotional use.)<\/p>\n<p>Also, if you want a chance to win this and other books by other awesome authors, note that Kevin Hearne is having a contest drawing for those who donate to UNHCR before 9\/20 &#8212; you may, in fact, win a copy of\u00a0<strong>Aftermath<\/strong> that he has personally annotated (!). <a href=\"http:\/\/kevinhearne.com\/books-for-helping-peeps\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Go check out the details<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, if you&#8217;re done the book and require another sci-fi read about a scrappy band of ragtag miscreants who go up against a giant Empire (this one being the United States government) to battle a deranged self-aware NSA surveillance system then &#8212; *clears throat* &#8212; might I gently point you toward <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/1UJTbMH\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Zer0es<\/strong><\/span><\/a>? *prod, prod*<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>*makes lightsaber sounds* *then runs around the room like an X-Wing* *then explodes like the Death Star* Hey, so, uhh.
