{"id":16959,"date":"2013-01-21T06:47:45","date_gmt":"2013-01-21T11:47:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/terribleminds.com\/ramble\/?p=16959"},"modified":"2013-01-21T06:47:45","modified_gmt":"2013-01-21T11:47:45","slug":"monday-question-wtf-wip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/terribleminds.com\/ramble\/2013\/01\/21\/monday-question-wtf-wip\/","title":{"rendered":"Monday Question: WTF WIP?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I was editing\u00a0<strong>The Blue Blazes<\/strong>, back from the Metal Men of the Cranky Cyborg, and in this WIP (work-in-progress) I found the following, erm, puzzling sentence:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;He sat on the toilet, dwarfing.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The scene takes place in a bathroom, yes.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing scatological.<\/p>\n<p>But I have no idea what this sentence means.<\/p>\n<p>It certainly&#8230; conjures some fascinating images. (And leads to the new Tolkien-esque euphemism for pooping: &#8220;BRB, I&#8217;m going to go throw some dwarves into Moria.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>The editor was wise enough to place a very lengthy note next to this sentence, which if I recall correctly went on and on and looked something like this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;???&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Seems to sum it up.<\/p>\n<p>Every once in a while we find a sentence in our WIPs that make no goddamn sense at all.<\/p>\n<p>So, that&#8217;s the question.<\/p>\n<p>What curiously broken sentences have\u00a0<em>you<\/em> found inside your work?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I was editing\u00a0The Blue Blazes, back from the Metal Men of the Cranky Cyborg, and in this WIP (work-in-progress) I found the following, erm, puzzling sentence: &#8220;He sat on the toilet, dwarfing.&#8221; The scene takes place in a bathroom, yes.
