That&#8217;s right, cats and kittens &#8212; another jaw-dropping eyeball-popping Joey Hi-Fi cover for yours truly. This time, for the next in the Miriam Black series, <strong>Mockingbird<\/strong>. (Cool interview with &#8220;Mister Hi-Fi&#8221; <a title=\"Joey Hi-Fi Interview\" href=\"http:\/\/angryrobotbooks.com\/2012\/02\/a-lengthy-blog-post-in-which-we-talk-all-things-joey-hifi-the-brand-new-cover-for-mockingbird-and-all-points-inbetween\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>right over here<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I&#8217;m the luckiest book boy in the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">What else is going on?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Well. Lessee.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 The <a title=\"Bait Dog: Kickstarter\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/terribleminds\/bait-dog-an-atlanta-burns-novel-by-chuck-wendig\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Bait Dog Kickstarter<\/strong><\/span><\/a> has 20 days left and we have crossed over the $4500 threshold. Which is crazy delicious. But, as yet, we have not yet crossed over into the &#8220;second book a-coming&#8221; bracket, which is set at a $6000 milestone. So, if you want to make me write <em>another<\/em> Atlanta Burns novel beyond <strong>Bait Dog<\/strong>, well, you know what to do.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 <strong>Shotgun Gravy<\/strong> (the novella that comes before <strong>Bait Dog<\/strong>) has been picking up a ton of very loving reviews lately. <a title=\"http:\/\/www.paulbarrettonline.com\/?p=153\" href=\"http:\/\/www.paulbarrettonline.com\/?p=153\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Producer Paul<\/strong><\/span><\/a> says, &#8220;I continue to be more and more impressed with author Chuck Wendig, and <strong>Shotgun Gravy <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/s\/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_11?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&amp;field-keywords=shotgun+gravy&amp;sprefix=shotgun+gra%2Caps%2C134\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>is no exception.&#8221; <a title=\"http:\/\/www.blueinkalchemy.com\/2012\/02\/27\/book-review-shotgun-gravy\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blueinkalchemy.com\/2012\/02\/27\/book-review-shotgun-gravy\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Josh Loomis<\/strong><\/span><\/a> says, &#8220;It&#8217;s a tense read, crackling with nervous energy and dread anticipation of what will happen next.&#8221; <a title=\"http:\/\/frellathon.com\/2012\/02\/23\/shotgun-gravy-by-chuck-wendig-review\/\" href=\"http:\/\/frellathon.com\/2012\/02\/23\/shotgun-gravy-by-chuck-wendig-review\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Jess<\/strong><\/span><\/a> says, &#8220;[Atlanta Burns is] human, vulnerable and yet ballsy in a way most people just wish they were.&#8221; Oh, and finally, 58 smashing reviews hanging out at <a title=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Shotgun-Gravy-Atlanta-Burns-ebook\/dp\/B005VEEVXW\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1327936248&amp;sr=8-1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Shotgun-Gravy-Atlanta-Burns-ebook\/dp\/B005VEEVXW\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1327936248&amp;sr=8-1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>the novella&#8217;s Amazon page<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 Another Kickstarter is doing well, and it&#8217;s also one to which I contributed &#8212; Smallsmall Thing is a documentary about the rape of a little Liberian girl and what that means for her family, her community and her country. I did some script work on it, and it&#8217;s a very powerful story. It&#8217;s already over 33% &#8212; worth taking a peek (<a title=\"Smallsmall Thing (Documentary)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/nikaoffenbac\/small-small-thing-feature\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>click here<\/strong><\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 <strong>Blackbirds<\/strong> rocks another very kind review &#8212; &#8220;This is a relatively small price to pay though when you\u2019ve got Wendig throwing you into any number of violent and chilling encounters with what is becoming his typical abrasive attitude. The guy has only written two books and already I can\u2019t get enough. If you\u2019re after some urban fantasy that is by no means typical then \u2018Blackbirds\u2019 is probably already on your wish list. For everyone else, give it a go anyway and have your mind blown. Another great <strong>Blackbirds<\/strong> review (at the <a title=\"http:\/\/worldwritsmall.wordpress.com\/2012\/02\/17\/blackbirds-by-chuck-wendig\/\" href=\"http:\/\/worldwritsmall.wordpress.com\/2012\/02\/17\/blackbirds-by-chuck-wendig\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>World Writ Small<\/strong><\/span><\/a>) says: &#8220;Probably the best thing about this book is that it never leaves you time to feel sorry or second guess any of the characters. They are so clearly drawn that everything about them feels realistic, and hate them or not, you know they\u2019re just going to keep on keeping on. The worst thing about this book is that it ends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 Dang, the hits just keep coming! From <a title=\"http:\/\/www.deadendfollies.com\/2012\/02\/chuck-wendig-blackbirds-2012.html\" href=\"http:\/\/www.deadendfollies.com\/2012\/02\/chuck-wendig-blackbirds-2012.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Dead End Follies<\/strong><\/span><\/a>: &#8220;There are many plot twists to <strong>Blackbirds <\/strong>that will make you stand up and yell &#8216;OH MY FUCKING GOOOOOOD. NO WAY&#8217; but they are strategically placed in the story, so you never know when you\u2019ll be slapped across the face. Keeps a reader tense, believe me. All in all, it\u2019s a crazy story I could very well see on film in the new few years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 A <a title=\"http:\/\/eddyfate.com\/2012\/02\/17\/peer-review-double-dead-by-chuck-wendig\/\" href=\"http:\/\/eddyfate.com\/2012\/02\/17\/peer-review-double-dead-by-chuck-wendig\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>very kind review<\/strong><\/span><\/a> of <strong>Double Dead<\/strong> by writer pal Eddy Webb, where he refers to me as a &#8220;subtle storyteller.&#8221; And then, surprisingly, does not admit to having just eaten a faceful of acid.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 Holy crap! <a title=\"http:\/\/www.abaddonbooks.com\/titles\/title_details\/badblood\" href=\"http:\/\/www.abaddonbooks.com\/titles\/title_details\/badblood\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Bad Blood cover<\/strong><\/span><\/a>! (Sequel to <strong>Double Dead<\/strong>, in case you didn&#8217;t realize.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 Holy crap! I just saw the <strong>Dinocalypse Now<\/strong> cover! But you can&#8217;t see it! Yet! Soon! I&#8217;m sure! It&#8217;s not walking, not yet, but I think we&#8217;re getting closer now. He&#8217;s nine months old and he&#8217;s been standing up like crazy (15 second record!). And he also built an F-14 out of our couch and flew it to the moon where he established a lunar colony for lost puppies. Okay, maybe not so much that last part.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 Finally, the good news is, <strong>terribleminds<\/strong> is getting to be very popular. The bad news is, that popularity costs. My web fees have gone up <em>again<\/em> in response to &#8220;increased compute cycles,&#8221; which is I guess the same as saying, &#8220;The robots are having to work harder to manage the strain your blog is causing on the rest of the robot universe.&#8221; Or something.
