Firstly, I note that we are now in the one-month-ish run-up to The Calamities, which of course means I’m going to be louder and more annoying about that book for the next four or so weeks. (And then, let’s be honest, after that, too.) So, as pre-penance, here is a picture of a puffin.

That is a photo of a puffin I took! I got to see puffins! And by puffins I mean, a fucking shitload of puffins. Like, imagine what constitutes a shitload of puffins, then add more puffins. Which is further to say, I have returned from the distant islands of Scotland and Ireland, my satchel stuffed with stolen puffins uhh I mean, puffin photos, wink wink wink.
So, I have paid the puffin tax.
I will talk more about my trip very soon, as I have Thoughts. (Nearly all of them Good Thoughts because Scotland and Ireland are fucking awesome.)
Okay, now that the puffin tax has been paid —
HEY GUESS WHAT, THE CALAMITIES COMES OUT SOON.
And August 2nd is your deadline to get the demonic goodies from pre-ordering the book from my local store, Doylestown Bookshop.
You can pre-order it from them right here.
How’s it work?
You pre-order from them.
I go to the store, I pre-sign the book, but also give you a unique inscription that is all yours and nobody else’s and that inscription tells you what demonic brood you belong to. Then you get a freakin’ cool shiny sticker (one of four) by Natalie Metzger that depicts some of the truly reprehensible monsters from within the book. Pure delicious nightmare fuel!
Then the store mails all that to you.
Congrats! Now you have a cool book. Also you’re demon-blooded. Sorry not sorry. Enjoy drinking and eating all the souls you care to consume!
Again, that deadline for pre-ordering with the goodies is August 2nd. Certainly you can pre-order after that from D-town or from any store, including any of the ones I’m visiting — I can still do stickers and such as supplies last, because stickers are not infinite. I tried buying Infinite Stickers and they told me physical reality was not yet updated to accommodate my bold request. I don’t know whether I should spoil the stickers, though — like, do you want to see them? Or be surprised by them? (My only spoiler so far is they are fucking cool. Natalie did dark wonders with my creepy babies.) Tell me in the comments if you want the spoiler. You can catch a glimpse of the stickers at Instagram — check my pinned posts.
Anyway.
Speaking of cool stores I’m visiting —
Yes, we’ve added a bunch! A batch! A bevy, even.
So, as it stands, the tour is:
8/18 — Launch party at Thrillerdelphia! With one of my favorite people, ML Rio, and we will surely have our morbid murderly comedy hour. Tickets here.
8/19 — The Twisted Spine in Brooklyn! In conversation with the inimitable and ever-astounding Nat Cassidy! Tickets here.
8/21 — Dark Ink at the Doylestown Bookshop, with the chimerical Clay McLeod Chapman (who may also be launching a book at the very same time) and I’ll be there the next day, too, on Saturday the 22nd for a panel — also, if you’re pre-ordering the book here alongside its extra goodies (stickers! demonic personalization!) you can also choose to pick it up at the event
8/25 — Midtown Scholar, Harrisburg, PA. Tix here.
8/26 — Riverstone Books, Pittsburgh, PA. In conversation with the dandy dapper devil himself, Richard Kadrey! Tix here.
8/27 — Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Cincinnati, OH. Details here. I’ll be chatting with JH Markert!
8/28 — Anderson’s Bookstore in Naperville, outside Chicago. Deets here.
8/29 — Boswell Book Co, Milwaukee, WI. Details here.
8/30 — Barnes & Noble, Madison, WI. Details tba, not sure which store yet.
9/1 — Magers & Quinn in Minneapolis, conversation partner tbd. Tix here!
9/2 — Tattered Cover in Denver, CO! Details tba.
9/3 — Main Street Books, St. Louis, MO, with Jesse Aragon. Tickets here! Note: it’s not at the store but at a local brewery because fuck yeah it is.
9/5 — Belmont Listfest in Belmont, NC. Just outside Charlotte. Details here. Features me but like, an alarmingly cool list of authors, including Mona Awad, Nat Cassidy, Phil Fracassi, Cass Khaw, Keith Rosson, Tanya Pell, and more.
So those are all confirmed dates!
I’m also adding, though less-confirmed, dates after NYCC — in October, Gibson’s on the 13th, I think, Phoenix Books in VT on the 14th, and then maybe Oblong Books in the Hudson Valley on the 20th. Again, October. And then there’s Horror on the Hudson in November…
Oh! And don’t forget, tomorrow night (7/15) I’m at D-town chatting with John Wiswell, The Dragon Has Some Complaints. And then next week, 7/23, I’m at Thrillerdelphia talking to Christopher Golden for his newest, Carry Me To My Grave. So holy shit, I’m busy.
Plus I guess I have a sequel to The Calamities to write??
I should go do that! Anyway, pre-order my book, or I am banished to the abyss. And come see me on tour! Do it! Join the cult! Bring me an apple and I’ll bring you several demons.
