Flash Fiction Challenge: X Versus Z, Redux
Another classic challenge, of which I am a fan.
Way this works is, below you will find two tables — X and Y! — and you will pick (or randomly draw) from those tables. That will leave you with a set of X versus Y — and from there, you will write a piece of flash fiction based on that parameter set. You can even use the match up (SKELETONS VS. SCIENTISTS!) as the title to the work, or come up with a new title.
Length: ~2000 words
Due by: 5/26, Friday, noon EST

Ok, now I know I’m not following instructions. I have a great excuse. I’ve already written a god/zombie fic and still currently working on it’s next chapters. It’s fanfiction for The Walking Dead and I have combined Greek Mythology with the TV show’s characters Rick and Michonne as Ares and Nike, but it also includes the rest of the family. It’s more than 2000 words and I hope it entertains you.

I just randomly got “librarians vs. evil.” I think I’ll roll again. I’m not in the mood to write an autobiographical piece.

“Sting It On”?
May 19, 2017 @ 5:31 PM
YES!!!!! LOL!
May 19, 2017 @ 6:03 PM
Ha! Yep, that. Do that.
May 19, 2017 @ 4:54 PM
I got Kaiju vs monks, and I guarantee a beastie is going to get punched into the sun.
May 19, 2017 @ 6:00 PM
Telling you what I randomly selected will ruin the ending, so you’ll just have to read to find out what I rolled. 😉
Also, I combined with another challenge that has a 99-word limit so I’m WAY under 2K.

Hey Chuck! Now I know you don’t control the price of your books and that you don’t control Amazon, but what are your thoughts on the price of your books on Amazon?
May 22, 2017 @ 7:31 AM
I appreciate you having a sense of humor, ding dong.
(That said, this is still not a post about my books or about book prices.)
But I’ll say that the prices of my books on Amazon are generally fine, though sometimes a publisher charges too much for an e-book, OR Amazon discounts the physical book in order to make the e-book price too high.

I like your description of the demon. Fun story.
May 22, 2017 @ 8:03 PM
thanks. I kinda took a little of the story from ‘Angel’… been watching a lot of that lately… Lorn has been rubbing off on me lately. He was my favourite character out of that show. 😀 Such a pity Andy Hallet passed away.
May 24, 2017 @ 1:35 AM
As an actual librarian I can confirm that this is 100% accurate. We really don’t die, we just hibernate. 😀
May 24, 2017 @ 4:27 PM
Lol. With book in hand, no doubt. 🙂
May 24, 2017 @ 8:37 PM
So glad I was right on the money with this story. 😛 And seeing I’ve known librarians all throughout my life (yes, as a 4 year old, I lived in my local library and as a teenager, I also lived in my primary and high school libraries too), and they’re the best people around. I’ve seen them retire from being librarians, but never die. They just seem to fade away from the public eye… hibernate. 🙂

I tried a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style story, so depending on how you read my Librarians vs Cannibals entry, I either smashed the 2000 word limit, or you’ll have a very short story indeed.

Its 2am here and I’m almost late. I got Ghosts vs Scientists. And I cheated shamelessly: it’s 1700 words, not 2000. The story ends with a small cliffhanger. And there’s only one ghost (so far).
But I had lots of fun writing this Teslapunk story starring the nominal Nikola Tesla and Harry Houdini as ghostbusters. Plus a few other known people. Here’s “The Adventure Begins”.

I hope you don’t mind, but I’m all over the place at the moment, and this is the story for the previous week’s sub-genre mashup: ‘Historical Fantasy’ and ‘Heist/Caper’ . Then again – it could be Time Travellers meets Serial Killers…. It features one of my favourite recurring characters.

Flash Fiction: Assassins versus Vampires - Runner Skye
May 29, 2017 @ 1:02 AM
[…] Last week’s challenge was to pick a one group of people from one table, pick another from another table and pit them together. It was due last Friday, so it’s hella late but I’m going to post it anyway. This is the first writing I’ve done in about 3 months, and I could tell. The characters aren’t very complex, and the story reads more like a scene in an action movie, but I had a lot of fun writing it. Also used the term “assassin” pretty loosely. Anyway, hope you like it. […]
