Flash Fiction Challenge: Ten More Titles
We’re going to ape the challenge from last week because honestly, that website came up with so many rad titles I want to keep forcing you to use them. And I’m also lazy.
Never discount the fact I’m incredibly lazy.
ANYWAY.
Here’s how this’ll work.
At the bottom of this post will be ten titles randomly selected at this website — you must choose one of them and write a flash fiction story (~1000 words) using that title. Any genre. Post it at your online space. Link back to it in the comments. Due by next Friday, January 29th, noon EST.
The ten titles are:
The Incubus’ Tale
The Manor Above
The Dancer And The Shattered Shell
The Hero Will Not Be Automatic
Ring of Bullets
The Music Box of Manhattan
These Damned Insects
Tiger, Burning
A Cold Opportunity Without The Kingdom
The Apocalypse Ticket
January 22, 2016 @ 8:48 AM
The Apocalypse Ticket. Ooooh, gears turning. Will hopefully be back later with something interesting.
January 28, 2016 @ 12:12 PM
Well, here it is. First time participating. Feedback welcome!

January 22, 2016 @ 9:27 AM
The Hero Will Not Be Automatic looks like a good title! See y’all next week!
January 22, 2016 @ 9:32 AM
omg these titles are so awesome. I WANTS THEM ALL.
January 24, 2016 @ 10:36 AM
I couldn’t choose, so I let random.org pick for me.
Here’s “The Apocalypse Ticket” : http://wp.me/p4p1YR-HR
January 25, 2016 @ 11:36 AM
Funny. Thanks for the laugh.
January 28, 2016 @ 11:07 AM
Nice one! I also did the Apocalypse ticket and am loving how everyone’s takes on the idea are so unique.
January 28, 2016 @ 2:39 PM
Exactly! And, of course, thanks for the read.
January 22, 2016 @ 10:27 AM
What!? Again?
January 22, 2016 @ 10:29 AM
I do love this website, it gives fantastic titles. The Manor Above, The Apocalypse Ticket, Tiger Burning and Ring of Bullets are all intriguing me, however will I choose?
January 22, 2016 @ 10:30 AM
I quite like “The Manor Above” – got the gears moving. But we’ll see if I have time to bash something out. I haven’t written in years. 🙂 Great challenge!
January 22, 2016 @ 12:23 PM
Post said story where?
January 22, 2016 @ 12:56 PM
You need a blog or your own website where you can post the story and then link back to a comment here.

I enjoyed the pacing. You have that marvelous ability to create warm and complex characters in a few words. Now THAT is flash fiction.
January 28, 2016 @ 11:23 AM
Oooh, I liked this one. Very well done, and didn’t feel longer despite its added word count.
January 23, 2016 @ 12:10 AM
The post with my submission for this challenge is in moderation. Last time, the comment was in moderation for almost a week. If anyone wants to read it, it’s the latest post on my blog as of this writing.
I’m not posting the link because it’s will sent the comment in moderation. For all I know, this will also go in moderation, but I’ll give it a shot.
January 23, 2016 @ 6:30 AM
If that’s the case, mine is currently in moderation likely because of my link. My title is The Dancer and the Shattered Shell as the most recent post on the site studiodimare dot com.
January 23, 2016 @ 7:44 AM
Yeah, mine’s in moderation too. If you’d all like to read mine (as I posted it today), go to my previous post and click on ‘Home’ at the bottom. It’ll show you the new one and a poem I wrote as a tribute to David Bowie.

I’m in the middle of writing mine, and I think maybe I should have chosen a different title. NO WAY I can let any relative of mine read The Incubus’ Tale: Charlie and the Sex Factory. HA! I’ll finish it, though… Poor Charlie.

I’ve included audio as well.
Not having to title things is great, but it also reminds me that titles are kind of low on my priority list. I think back to my favorite books and I think of the character’s names or the world descriptions first. James Bond movies are James Bond movies after all. I’m sure some people really get into the titles, but it explains why I’m bad at it. Maybe?
January 27, 2016 @ 7:15 PM
Such a great take on this title. Very nice indeed.

Wouldn’t let me comment on your site for some reason.
Anyhow, I really enjoyed that. It was a unique take on the premise.
Some people may not have liked the ambiguity of the tickets and the ending, but personally, I dig it when I’m given less information, rather than more.
Thumbs up.

Love all those titles but this one jumped out at me first: These Damned Insects

This was so much fun. I’d almost forgotten how much I enjoyed writing Flash Fiction. I chose
“The Music Box from Manhattan.” Here is the result.

January 26, 2016 @ 5:01 PM
Sorry, the entry is of course ‘The Music Box of Manhattan” not ‘from’ Manhattan. It is correct in the story, I promise.
January 26, 2016 @ 5:13 PM
Do you have a link for us? I got an error when I clicked your name.

Nice story!
I noticed one word mix-up. I think you meant queue instead of cue. The meanings are slightly different and could easily be confused.

I don’t know if Chuck will read this but I came across this writing prompt on facebook last night and I thought it was cool and wanted to share it:
You’ve been kidnapped, you call on the characters from one TV show to make a rescue attempt. Which show is it?
January 27, 2016 @ 7:24 PM
Now that sounds like fun. I may have to choose the lovable nuts in ‘Big Bang Theory’ as a rescue team. eeek!

January 28, 2016 @ 4:15 PM
I really enjoyed this. Well done! Is Silas a nod to Sylar from Heroes? He was an horologist on that show.
I did notice one little typo/word confusion – “along” when I believe you meant “alone” when talking about the parts.
January 28, 2016 @ 4:32 PM
Nope, Silas was just a name I picked because I thought it worked for an old tinker. Glad you enjoyed the piece.
