Flash Fiction Challenge: Who The Fuck Is My D&D Character
Click this link:
Who The Fuck Is My D&D Character?
It is amazing.
You are going to click that link and you are going to use what you get there to write 1000 words of flash fiction. Now, some of you may not want to write fantasy or something so plainly D&D-esque, and that’s cool — I’d then suggest clicking it, taking the result and using it as inspiration. Borrow some part of it for your character. Adjust to the genre you so desire.
So, 1000 words.
Write it at your blog or online space.
Link to it here in the comments so we can all read.
Due by next Friday, the 16th, noon EST.
Oh, and welcome to the first flash fiction challenge of the year.
If this is your first time at Write Club:
YOU HAVE TO WRITE.
January 9, 2015 @ 8:53 AM
“Check this shit out, I’m going to be a fuckingdramatic Elf Paladin from the city post office who is afraid of fireThat sounds fucking terrible”
Thank you for my morning snork 😀
January 9, 2015 @ 8:59 AM
“You think your character is cool? My character is a fucking dependable Human Druid from a super religious upbringing who is really (I MEAN REALLY) afraid of the dark.”
LOVE this.
January 9, 2015 @ 9:04 AM
Well, check this shit out: Inconsiderate dwarf rogue from the city post office who was brought up to be a librarian. Hehe.
January 9, 2015 @ 9:45 AM
Awsome challenge chuck. I am loving the dnd generater. I got a pensive halfling warlock from a haberdashery who deserted the army.
This should be interesting…
January 9, 2015 @ 9:48 AM
YOU THINK YOUR CHARACTER IS COOL? MY CHARACTER IS A FUCKING
ABSENT MINDED GNOME ROGUE FROM THE SMALLEST MOUNTAIN IN THE WORLD WHO CAN’T SILENCE THE VOICES
This could be fun; though I’ve never played D&D
January 9, 2015 @ 12:06 PM
Ooh, not being able to silence voices has potential.
January 11, 2015 @ 4:34 AM
That is so true! XD
January 13, 2015 @ 1:21 PM
So…your character is a writer, then? o.O
January 16, 2015 @ 11:27 AM
Perhaps he would’ve been; if it weren’t for my Christmas present: Breaking Bad box set! Oh the irony of watching addicts, and as the credits roll, telling yourself: “just one more”
January 9, 2015 @ 10:04 AM
I love this dnd generater and I’M GOING TO ROLL THE STATS FOR A FUCKING
PENSIVE HALFLING WARLOCK FROM A HABERDASHERY WHO DESERTED THE ARMY
Awsome challenge to start the year chuck!
January 9, 2015 @ 10:04 AM
“Eager elf Druid from the Petrified Wood who doesn’t believe in magic, ever.”
“Doesn’t ever”… But, like… you’re a druid? This one’s fun.
January 9, 2015 @ 10:16 AM
“I’m going to roll the stats for a fucking sombre Tiefling druid from an uncharted island who is afraid the rest of the party will kill them if they try to leave.”
*acknowledging failure as a geek, turns to Google to find out what the hell a Tiefling is*
January 9, 2015 @ 10:25 AM
“…conceited dwarf fighter from the slave fighting pits who hates wearing their glasses.” Egads, it’s me!
January 9, 2015 @ 10:30 AM
“OVEREMOTIONAL TIEFLING RANGER FROM A FLOATING CITY WHO FAILED OUT OF EVERY GUILD GOING”
Yaw, yes!

January 9, 2015 @ 10:59 AM
I rolled a…

[…] Assignment: Chuck Wendig’s Flash Fiction Challenge […]
January 9, 2015 @ 11:11 AM
Oh, this one sounds like way too much fun… I ended up clicking the reroll link over and over again (while copying out the results each time, or at least the most fun ones), because never mind a single character, I’m generating an entire party. What happens when a moody Tiefling Cleric from an illusory forest who suffers from nosebleeds, a disruptive Elf Fighter from the city sewers who gets nervous speaking in front of crowds and a miserable Halfling Sorcerer from the royal bank who was brought up to be a librarian meet up? Hilarity ensues, no doubt!
January 9, 2015 @ 1:00 PM
I’M GOING TO ROLL THE STATS FOR A FUCKING
BITCHY DRAGONBORN PALADIN FROM THE BASE OF A VOLCANO WHO HAS ANGER PROBLEMS
January 9, 2015 @ 1:34 PM
I got Fucking Plucky Tiefling Wizard from a Cavern without Echoes who Mistrusts Anyone Smaller Than Them…awesome! except I don’t know what a Tiefling is.
January 9, 2015 @ 10:02 PM
It’s a half-demon from hell basically
January 12, 2015 @ 1:22 PM
Really? Huh! I just assumed it was a thiefling typo or something.

January 9, 2015 @ 2:25 PM
Oh, my. I’m a “hateful human sorcerer from the smallest mountain in the world who studied interior dungeon design”.
Two thoughts: A) At least I’m human, I don’t know what some of those other things are
and
B) I’d have played D&D long ago if I’d known it involved any sort of interior design.
January 9, 2015 @ 2:29 PM
CHECK THIS SHIT OUT, I’M GOING TO BE A FUCKING
CRITICAL DWARF WARLOCK FROM A MID-LEVEL CULT WHO HAS A HUGE DEBT TO PAY BACK
I’m not really into fantasy, but that’s just awesome.
January 9, 2015 @ 3:17 PM
Yeah, this one is brilliant. Nice roll!
January 13, 2015 @ 7:20 PM
Figuring out this story wasn’t easy, but I think it was worth it

January 13, 2015 @ 9:02 PM

January 14, 2015 @ 7:47 AM
Thank you!
January 9, 2015 @ 3:15 PM
Dude, this is awesome.
“Check this shit out, I’m going to be a fucking impetuous halfling wizard from a company of sellswords who doesn’t believe in magic, EVER.”
A wizard who doesn’t believe in magic. Feels like I hit the jackpot.
January 13, 2015 @ 9:19 PM
A bit later than I’d have liked, but I got through it. Went through a couple of iterations before settling on this one. I enjoyed it.
Here’s “Smoke Rings”: https://pavorisms.wordpress.com/2015/01/13/smoke-rings/
January 14, 2015 @ 8:08 AM
Wonderful! 🙂 I especially loved the end. 😀
January 14, 2015 @ 10:07 AM
Thanks! I flitted about a whole lot on the ending, trying to figure out what the grandfather could do to wrap up, but then it hit me… of course! Lineage!

January 9, 2015 @ 3:47 PM
“I’m going to be a fucking outgoing Half-elf Sorcerer from a small town tavern who is trying to get out of the adventuring business to settle down.”
Hilarious.
January 9, 2015 @ 5:32 PM
I humbly beg you (I even have tears in my eyes right now) to keep in mind that some of your most ardent fans (like little ol’ me) are NOT fantasy fiction writers. Rather, they would want to write clean, good old-fashioned romance! That makes your flash fiction challenge even more challenging.
Well, what the heck! I couldn’t wait to see what this week’s challenge would be. I’m not going to back out now that it’s finally posted. Kinky dragonborn bard (whatever that might mean) love … and probably love-making too … it is. My mind is spinning faster than a dragonborn tasmanian devil. Wait! Does that make any sense? We shall see …
January 16, 2015 @ 11:58 AM
My prompt was:
Who the @#%& is my D&D character? Check this sh*t out, I’m going to be a @#%&-ing curious dragonborn barbarian from a travelling band who is afraid of heights.
I had to say, “Screw D&D!” because I had no clue what it is. I put my barbarian into a life and death situation in a world I made up myself.

I’m a COURAGEOUS TIEFLING RANGER FROM A FLOATING CITY WHO IS AFRAID OF FIRE….awesome!!!
January 9, 2015 @ 7:36 PM

… I think I can do something with this.
January 9, 2015 @ 8:47 PM

Just read this – loved it. Great humour – I got an almost ‘Buffy’ sense of how much it sucks to be the chosen one, and the ending was brilliant.
Nicely done.
KT
January 12, 2015 @ 1:23 AM
Thank you. As a long term gamer, I have played with the idea of being a chosen hero with my gamers. Many times the idea is nice but the actual work can be a bit much. Like making movies; you may love the finished product but truly have no idea of what of hell goes on behind the scenes. I appreciate your read and am enjoying your blog.
January 13, 2015 @ 5:13 PM
*LAUGH* Oh that poor hero. You just can’t win with gods. 🙂
January 14, 2015 @ 7:44 AM
Man, this poor guy couldn’t win no matter what he did.

Machiavellian Human Ranger from the rat catchers guild who has serious daddy issues
January 10, 2015 @ 12:41 PM
Ooooh yeah: CHECK THIS SHIT OUT, I’M GOING TO BE A FUCKING WELL-INTENTIONED HALF-ORC SORCERER FROM A STRING OF TERRIBLE PLACES TO LIVE WHO BELIEVES THEY’RE A DEMI GOD, BUT HASN’T FIGURED OUT WHO’S THEIR FATHER YET
I think I’m ready to try this flash fiction thing for the first time.

Mine is a Human Ranger from the most vile of swamps who is lactose intolerant.
January 10, 2015 @ 5:50 PM
Mr. Wendig…as a now rabid (bibliophile only) fan of your work my question is will you be writing anymore in the Gods and Monsters serires?
January 10, 2015 @ 7:38 PM
Hahaha!
My prompt:
“I’m going to roll the stats for a fucking moody elf warlock from the gutter who constantly watches their back.”
This was the result:
http://cronasonlyfriend.deviantart.com/art/Dinai-ya-Pt-1-506189044
A little story called “Dinai’ya.”
I gotta be honest and say that the plot is not resolved in this story, and indeed I will be continuing it, since I got so much inspiration from this challenge. But I thought I share regardless. This “Part” is slightly over the 1000 word count limit, but. . . .whatever.
January 10, 2015 @ 8:07 PM
