Flash Fiction Challenge: Diseased Horror
Last week: horror as spam.
This week:
The country’s in EBOLA PANIC, going so far as to elect an Ebola Czar. (Did you know that vending machines kill 13 people a year? I look forward to our new Vending Machine Czar to address this grave concern.) Disease of course freaks people out. And next Friday? Halloween. The time of horror!
Which means it’s time for you to freak people out with disease.
Write 1000 words of flash fiction.
It should be horror.
It should feature disease as an axis of that horror.
That’s it. That’s the mission.
Write it at your blog or online space.

Due by Halloween, noon, EST.

This might not have turned out as well as I wanted — too serious to be slapstick, trying too hard for a punchline to be horror. But the dozen political calls a day and hundreds of TV ads every day may be having an effect on my brain.

Okay. A lot of firsts here, including my first time posting here, my first attempt at flash fiction and honestly, the first fiction I’ve written in about 25 years. Well, that I’ve finished, anyway. I have a feeling I’m going to have that “first workout muscle pain” when I wake up.

I don’t think I’ve ever written horror before (which is probably why it still ended up being set on a different planet), but here goes:
