I learned to pack my prose with multiple meanings while writing LARP characters for cons. I have about 1/2 of a page to convey a laundry list of facts about the game world and premise, how that character felt about those facts, and what that character should sound like when expressing those feelings. Every sentence: fact, opinion, personality.

Then people would just skim their character sheets for stats and get everything wrong. LARP is a hideous bitch goddess.

Now I have the Rolling Stones stuck in my head. Seriously, Keith Richards is currently trying to snort my inner ear. A lot of people slam King (And why not? He’s popular and successful, the fucking bastard.) but I’ve always enjoyed how is books could be scary as hell yet still find someway to crack you up when you least expect it – the Stand was really good at that.

I’ve never looked at my own work with unitasking in mind. Usually, when I look at my own work I just prance around and proclaim what a genius I am. This flew right up my nostril though, and I am gonna make sure I get all the work out of my sentences that I can squeeze out of them. I am all about word economy – fuck, if I could hire cheap migrant words with questionable work credentials, I would.
