It’s not the time, it’s… something else. Not knowing what I’m doing. Lack of confidence. Starting on things that are bigger than I can see all at once from here. No *good* reasons.

Keeping a clipping file sounds good. I don’t do that, but I may just start.

Why are the first drafts not coming out of the stable so easily? Is it an issue of time? I know you’ve had a bevy of projects waiting in the wings.

I edit great. I kill darlings two at a time, one with each hand. I open the file in a new file and I Track Changes and go to town. When big chunks come out, they go into a “clipping” file, for later usage, reference, or, more often, sitting around.

It’s the making of first drafts that I suck at lately.

That’s pretty much the way I edit as well. The big monitor that I could read across the room cuts down on eyestrain. I don’t usually bother to print stuff out. Possibly because I’m cheap.
